Northwest Report: Lomax's son chooses Hawkins, Boise
By Chris Fetters
Scout.com spoke with former NFL quarterback Neil Lomax about his son Nick's verbal commitment to play for Dan Hawkins, Chris Petersen and the Boise State Broncos instead of accepting a grey-shirt offer from Oregon State.
"I think the coaches were the biggest thing -- how he felt with Coach Petersen," Neil said of his son. "He felt really, really comfortable with Coach Petersen. He also met Coach Hawkins and the whole staff."
Neil also discussed the importance of Nick's recent visit to Boise as a major factor in Lomax's final decision. "It was just a really good visit, a quality visit that sold him," Neil said. "He really felt good about it the other day and said he wanted to commit.
"Coach Hawkins signed for five more years. He'll be there and he told us he'll be there. And I agreed with Nick that you can't find a better quarterback coach and coordinator than coach Petersen. He really bought into that, and coach Petersen communicated better than any other coach just how excited he is to work with Nick and the potential that Nick can bring to the program."
Nick will redshirt when he joins the Broncos in the fall.
"The way I understand it, he'll redshirt and then he'll fall in line with the other quarterbacks they have," Neil said. "They made it very clear that they are bringing in the other quarterback, [Kyle] Seevers, and they'll grey-shirt him, so they'll have Lomax and then Seevers back-to-back."
