damn good looking crop of players

I am pleased - could go for a few less JUCO's but the are battle tested and should be ready to play.

If we can find a QB we should only have a loss to Florida - the rest of the games are VERY winnable.

I would like to see us go young on Offense skill positions.

    WR - Newman / Holland / Ussin / Wheeler

    Athlete - Franklin

    RB - Jackson / Lewis

    QB - Champion / Moseley
    Let them play!

I'm glad to see the lower number of JUCO's and several of the highschool kids are high CHARACTER kids and maybe this will rub off on some of the numbskulls still on the squad -

All in all it looks like a solid class - much more solid than I expected -

Carrington went to ASU and I am glad to see all the HS kids. Most of the JCs count towards last year also. JB said we still have a few more ships and will be looking around and probably sign 1 more QB.

    Ussin is a PROP.

But Wheeler, B. Jackson, P. Jackson, Harrison are expected to see heavy action as freshmen.

Who is left? Any sleepers (QBs) that we might be willing to take a chance on? How many 'rides do we have left?

5 of these JC guys count toward last year and one or two props from last year will count this year so maybe 3-4 scholarships left.

Re: 17 HS / 7 JUCO in class of 2005

I'm a little surprised tha all of the JUCOs are defensive backs. The biggest advantage with JUCOs is that they can produce right away but that seems like a little overkill at one position.

Not when you lose 5 DB's to graduation.

    Another (Hiram Eugene) tranfers out.

Two (Butler and Harris) bulked up and will move to LB.

And you also lose a prop (Tracy Russel) that you were expecting to contribute this season.

That's 9 kids gone out of that position since last fall.

Re: 17 HS / 7 JUCO in class of 2005

Looks like a good class coming in, (but) and I am not trying to be negative, some of these guys seem small for there respective positions, the LB's for one, most are not even 220 lbs. The exception being Beverage ( I think he is the best of this class on either side of the ball). I know they will grow, but it seems to me, every year we recruit guys that are undersized and have no speed, although the OL and DL guys look very good as far as size goes. That said, I wish these recruits well and hopefully ALL of them will produce over the next 3 or 4 years on the field and more importantly, in the classroom.

I just can't wait to see Wheeler standing next to Freddie King in warm-ups. WR is a position where we got some BIG fellas.
