Was McNeese that bad, Tech that good, or a little of both? This series really has me excited about this year. I was expecting good things, but if McNeese was as good as they usually are- THIS IS HUGE!

I think McNeese is supposed to be pretty good, but the announcers did say that 3 of their projected top four hitters were suspended for the series for team rules violations.
We swept them last year, too. We knew their first two starting pitchers were good. Let's take these one series at a time. I am very encouraged about our pitching thus far.

Way to go, Dawgs!!!
Like coach Sim said- Louisiana Tech's pitching staff is head and shoulders above where it was last year.
Actually it was a 1-game improvement over last year's series in Ruston. The McNeese radio announcers Sunday made a point to mention the Saturday blowout Cowboy win last year sandwiched between Tech wins on Friday and Sunday. Tech won 9-7 and 9-3 while McNeese won 18-4.Originally Posted by Tech77
Not hard to see significant improvement with Tech allowing six runs in this year's series compared to 28 last year. Even the suspended McNeese top hitters wouldn't likely have made up a big part of that 22-run difference. We can hope that the rest is due to a what appears to be a much improved Tech pitching staff. So far the evidence is supporting Coach Simoneaux's assessment.
No, they were wrong. We swept them last year too, but it was in Ruston.Originally Posted by RealityCheck

last year we took 2 out of 3 from them to begin the season at JCLove
I looked it up. The McNeese announcers and MichiganDawg are correct. Our pitching got hammered 18-4 in the middle game last season, while we won the first and last games 9-3 and 9-7. So this is a great improvement, especially in pitching.
THANKS FOR THE REPLYS. I AM OFFICIALLY EXCITED ABOUT THIS TEAM.
McNeese did not have the hitters to help determine how much better our pitching is. They are typical Southland Baseball on the mound...have about 3 guys and are out of gas. We will all know more when we face better teams. As for now, we need these wins to help build momentum and confidence to a lot of new players to team.

Talked to Coach Sim about McNeese yesterday. He said their three starters were exceptional. The Friday starter hit 97 with the other two throwing in the low to mid 90's.
Coach Sim told his team to take pitches and to try to foul off three or four pitches per at bat to get the pitch count up on their starters. Sure enough all three McNeese starters were above 90 pitches by the 6th and we teed off on their bullpen.
He also mentioned the straight steal of home is just part of our offense. When he was at ULL he called a straight steal of home late in a tied game in the CWS against Clemson. That run was the game winner.
Coach Sim and Coach Hawkins from Boise State must have been separated at birth. They MUST be brothers.Originally Posted by Dawg04
I remember watching that play and thinking that those coonasses from Lafayette were crazy. But, it worked, and he was the man on 3rd that called that steal.Originally Posted by Dawg04
