Since I haven't heard anything about our defensive coordinator position...how about I throw this guy out there. Alabama's defense was stout last year...and this guy looks like a young up and comer. He has experience in the Big XII and SEC...he may want a chance to prove himself as a coordinator and not a position coach.
Buddy Wyatt
Defensive Line
*First Year at Alabama (Jan. 22, 2003)
Buddy Wyatt enters his second season coaching the Crimson Tide’s defensive line. Wyatt, 37, spent three seasons as defensive line coach at Texas A&M before his arrival at the Capstone.
Prior to his stint at Texas A&M, Wyatt served as the defensive line coach at Colorado for a year. He has coached the defensive line at each of his previous coaching stops.
A native of Victoria, Texas, Wyatt played at Stroman High School where he lettered in football, basketball and track. He graduated in 1985 and attended TCU where he earned four letters as a defensive lineman for Coach Jim Wacker. He recorded 46 stops as a senior, including four quarterback sacks. He graduated with a degree in education in 1989.
After playing two seasons of professional football, Wyatt returned as a graduate assistant working with the defensive line at TCU in 1991. During his days in Fort Worth, Wyatt was active in many community activities including Meals on Wheels, helping with a disadvantaged youth program as well as the physically handicapped program, and drug awareness and education for youth.
The University of Minnesota hired Wyatt in 1992 to coach the defensive line and special teams and he stayed in Minneapolis through the 1995 season. He spent the 1996 season as the defensive line coach at Oklahoma State before heading to Northwestern to coach the defensive line for coach Gary Barnett in 1997-98.
At Northwestern, Wyatt tutored Casey Dailey, Keith Lozowski and Kejuan DuBose. Dailey and Lozowski were two of the top pass rushers in school history and both went on to play in the NFL with the New York Jets. DuBose played with the Chicago Bears.
Wyatt coached at Colorado before going to Texas A&M. He coached future NFL players Ty Warren, Rocky Bernard, Ronald Edwards and Ronald Flemons at A&M.
When Barnett left to take the Colorado head coaching position, Wyatt moved to Boulder for the 1999 season and helped the Buffaloes reach the Insight.com Bowl.
Wyatt and his wife, Andrea, have one son, Fredrick (8) and one daughter, Ariel (4).
