Collegefootballnews - Moats a possible steal

Thought this was interesting. Can't wait to see who picks him up. I'm one of those sick people that actually watches the draft.

Ryan Moats, RB Jr. - Louisiana Tech
Projected: late 2nd to 3rd round
Good or bad move? The possible steal of the draft, Moats was one of the nation's most productive runners over the last few years and has the potential to be every bit as productive as the higher ranked backs. While not lightning fast, he's tremendously quick and can be a workhorse.

and that, ladies and gents, is why my signature reads as it does. Also why i have been saying he will go MUCH higher than most said. And not to gloat to much, also why i have said all along he made the right decision to come out rather than risk injury for Bicknell and Co next year.

20 some odd years ago 12 basketball teams passed on a junior from Ruston in the draft......who is going to screw up royally this time and pass on another?

Moats deserves more hype than any crackhead from USC or a thug from Oklahoma. He is a good man and I will root for him no matter where he goes. And yes I will watch every round of the NFL draft.

And you know when Moats goes pro he will be promoting Tech. That's what makes him cool, he knows where he came from.

Thumbs Up Re: Collegefootballnews - Moats a possible steal

It is really nice having an ex-TECH player that EVERYONE likes and appreciates the things he did on the football field get a chance to play professional sports.

I will watch the draft waiting to see where he goes and will be a fan of the team he plays for. Tech will have a nice little collection of players in the NFL.

Where he goes will have alot to do with what goes on this weekend at the combine and in individual workouts. Nobody knows where he will go right now. This was not the year to come out as a RB though, it was too stacked. Some are saying the draft is weak overall and that might help but there are still 15 good RBs with NFL talent and some with better size and speed that scouts drool over.I hope he lights up the combine and proves me and a lot of others wrong and goes in 2nd round to somebody that needs a RB.

Re: Collegefootballnews - Moats a possible steal

We should have a Moats draft game. Winner should get a Moats NFL jersey.

I'll take the first to picks

Atlanta Falcons in the 2nd round or the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 3rd round.

Could you imagine Moats and Vick in the same backfield?? Especially on turf?? I like Warrick Dunn but he's getting older and he doesnt have Moats inside power, Ryan has 28 pounds on Dunn.

Ryan Moats is going to be a Falcon.......

Being a Saints fan, I hate the Turd Birds. I say he goes to the Saints in the 4th, if he is still there, as a change of pace/back-up to Duece for 2005. The Saints take QB Alex Smith at the 16th slot as he slips. Good value pick even though they still need a DT, CB and another LB. They get these positions by trading Brooks and Horn for additional draft picks (or CB Fred Smoots) and signing Garcia (FA) and D.Mason (Tenn FA) or Muhhammed (Car FA) . OK, I am just having a little fun here.

The Saints do need a tailback in the coming years and on turf Moats would be doubly tough. That would be cool to go down there a few games a year and see Moatsy do his thing. Still though, cant see him lasting until the 4th UNLESS teams have a question about his leg longterm.......

Sorry Tyler but Alex Smith is going to be a top 5 pick. He will either be the number 1 or number 2 quarterback in the draft chosen along with Aaron Rogers. I think it would be good for the Saints to get some help in the secondary. They should be better as long as Deuce stays healthy and they give him the ball.

Re: Collegefootballnews - Moats a possible steal

Does anyone know when Moats is actually working out at the combine?

Here's a look at the second-tier of running back talent in the upcoming draft from ESPN insider.

Florida's Ciatrick Fason has the most upside of second-tier backs in the draft.

    Ciatrick Fason, Florida
Athletic potential starter but lack of experience and toughness make him a risk. He has the most upside of all the other RB prospects.

    Vernand Morency, Oklahoma State
Explosive speed and adequate size but needs to stay healthy and become a more physical runner. A good fit for a Broncos'-type of zone-blocking offense.

    Eric Shelton, Louisville
Could be a better pro than college player. Still needs to improve blocking and receiving skills, but possesses terrific speed and athletic ability for such a big back.

    T.A. McLendon, N.C. State
A Stephen Davis (Panthers) type with great size, vision and power as a runner. However, durability and fumbling problems will cause him to slip on draft day.

    Walter Reyes, Syracuse
Undersized back with explosive speed. Had trouble staying healthy as a senior, which explains why his stock is on the decline. Could be a sleeper in this class.

    Anthony Davis, Wisconsin
Lack of size and major durability issues will hurt him on draft weekend. However, he has the speed, elusiveness and instincts to contribute as a return specialist and change of pace back in the NFL.

    J.J. Arrington, California
Lack of size limits him and he needs more experience. However, he catches the ball well and possesses explosive speed. Worth taking a chance on as a potential third-down back and kickoff return specialist.

    Marion Barber III, Minnesota
Overrated by some because he lacks explosive speed and great size. However, he has enough physical tools, toughness and running instincts to contribute as a backup RB and KOR specialist.

    Moats

    Ryan Moats, Louisiana Tech
Shifty, tough, diminutive back that shined as a senior and built on that momentum at the East-West Shrine game. He can contribute as a change-of-pace back and return specialist in the NFL.

    Frank Gore, Miami-FL
High risk but potential for high reward. Two season-ending knee injuries in 2002 and 2003, but showed good durability as the load-carrier for the Hurricanes in 2004. If he ever regains his burst and explosiveness, he could be a late-Day 1 steal.

    Kay-Jay Harris, West Virginia
Another "Boom-or-Bust" prospect with loads of upside because of his size/speed combination but lots of red flags as an aging back with durability concerns and limited experience. A team such as the Jets, Steelers or Eagles, with some wiggle-room at the position, should take a gamble on him.

    Darren Sproles, Kansas State
Hugely productive and versatile player on the collegiate level. Stood out as one of the quickest skill players at the Senior Bowl. Lacks the size of a fulltime NFL RB but he can make things happen with the ball in his hands. A Dave Meggett-type that will contribute as a runner, receiver and return specialist.
