Bulldogs to Take on Grambling State
    Updated Mar 28, 2005 13:44:02

RUSTON, La. - Louisiana Tech is back from its 12-day road trip to Hawaii and San Jose State and the Bulldogs will close a stretch of 12 straight road games on Tuesday night at Grambling State.

First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.

The Bulldogs (10-17) have got improved pitching recently but the bats went
silent in the final two games at San Jose State as Tech was shutout 1-0 and 4-0 on Friday and Saturday.

Tech went 3-3 on the trip, taking two of three from Hawaii and dropping two of three at San Jose State.

Tech is 5-5 in its last ten games and pitchers have posted a 3.29 earned run average in that span. However, the Bulldogs are only hitting .232 in those ten games and are averaging 3.5 runs per game with only two home runs.

The Bulldogs will be looking to avenge a 10-9 defeat to Grambling State on March 1st in Ruston. Tech led 9-0 after three innings and after mass substitutions, the Tigers rallied for a 10-9 win with four runs in the top of the ninth inning.

Ryan Hamilton is Tech’s hottest hitter coming into the game. The junior brings a 10-game hitting streak into the game. Hamilton is now hitting .299 with two home runs and 10 RBI on the season.

Grambling State (8-16) dropped three games at Texas Southern over the weekend but the Tigers have won five of their last eight games.

GSU is hitting .268 as a team led by Courtney Jones at .433 with three home runs and 24 RBI.

After Tuesday’s game, Tech will return to action on Thursday when the Bulldogs open a three-game Western Athletic Conference baseball series against Nevada.

    Tech Blasts Grambling State, 18-5

GRAMBLING, La. – Louisiana Tech exploded for four home runs and 18 runs in an 18-5 victory over Grambling State on Tuesday night at Tiger Field.

Ben Tabor led the Bulldogs with two home runs, a single and a double while picking up a career high six RBIs.

Gil Laird and Brandon Hudson also hit home runs as Tech slugged a season-high four in the game.

Tech (11-17) picked up seasons highs in hits (19) and runs (18) as well.
Mitch Tucker (2-3) picked up his second win in a week with a strong outing against the Tigers (8-17). Tucker allowed two earned runs on four hits with six strikeouts in six innings of work.

Tech jumped on top with three runs in the top of the first inning. Adam Cobb had an RBI double before Ben Tabor hit a two-run home run to put the Bulldogs up 3-0.

A two-out double in the third inning by Jonathan Yerby gave Tech a 4-0 lead.
Grambling State came back to tie the game at 4-4 in the bottom of the third inning with the help of a Bulldogs error that led to two of the runs being unearned.

Tech then exploded with four runs in the fourth, three in the fifth and three more in the sixth inning to build a 14-5 lead after six innings of play.

Tabor gave the Bulldogs the lead for good with a three-run, opposite field blast in the fourth inning.

Ryan Hamilton extended his hitting streak to 11 games with a first inning single and went on to pick up a career high four hits for Tech while also collecting four RBIs.

Brandon Haygood and Adam Cobb also posted three hits each for the Bulldogs.

Amos Ramon and Andrew Alsup pitched the final three innings of the game.

The Bulldogs return to action on Thursday when Tech hosts Nevada in a three-game Western Athletic Conference baseball series.

We got our revenge at Grambling tonight. I'm glad to see that coach Sim didn't let up until about the 7th or 8th inning. We could've scored a few more runs, but coach Sim held up a couple runners while rounding third. He got the win and showed class. That's my kind of coach!

If Grambling is to be used as a measuring stick, 18-5 is a lot better than 9-10.

Yes, the Diamond Dawgs are starting to round into shape. They are playing better recently, a sign of good coaching. They just need to keep it going in the right direction.

    Go Diamond Dawgs!

I think Coach Sim learned a VALUABLE lesson in the first Grambling game -

There is a such thing as letting off of the gas pedal too early -

It's one thing to slow em down in the 7th and 8th inning - its an entirely different matter in the 3rd...
