She has had a top 5 recruiting class for several years going.
if "it's official" nobody in the wbb office knows about it yet.
This actually a site for discussion not "news" or gossip" although there is always plenty of the latter thrown around. Many of us have a growing aversion to anything we read on here where you won't post a source, not from you or Dwayne, Cartek, or anybody too many people have spread too much bs. So don't be offended but you are going to get the same response from most people of "we will wait for an official announcment."Originally Posted by DawgGoneMad

Third you need to calm down on here, with the language. Lots of people read these threads whether they post or not and some are younger or older and offended. You have a right to your opinion, but keep it clean!! If someone throws something at you, then be the bigger person, feel free to respond but do it in a more mature manner whether the do or not.
Please just think about what you post on here and as a rule if you can't say where you got the information from or who then just keep it in until the university or said team makes the announcement. Unless you are truly here to simply stir up things and then if thats the case eventually people will simply stop replying to any post you make. It has happened before. PLease think before you type.
Got to be some inherent advantage if you are recruiting for Duke.Originally Posted by champion110

After spending eight seasons at the University of Illinois, LaVonda Wagner joined the Blue Devil coaching staff as assistant coach in 2002-03. Wagner is heavily involved in recruiting, scouting and working with the post players at Duke.
Since Wagner's arrival at Duke two years ago, she has helped bring in top-five recruiting classes in each of the two seasons.
In her eight years at Illinois, Wagner played a big role in the rise of IIlini basketball. She was instrumental in garnering one of the top five recruiting classes in 2000, while she attracted many of the top players from Illinois and recruited on a national scale.
Wagner began her stint at Illinois in 1994 as an assistant coach and four years later she was promoted to recruiting coordinator. After the completion of the 1998-99 season, Wagner was promoted once again to associate head coach where she spent four seasons.
During her stay at Illinois, Wagner was very influential in guiding the careers of some very talented players such as Ashley Berggren (All-America), Tauja Catchings (All-America and WNBA draftee), Susan Blauser (All-Big Ten), Alicia Sheeler (Second Team All-Big Ten) and Kris Dupps (honorable mention All-Big Ten).
Wagner is an acclaimed public speaker, talking at Rotary, Kiwanis, high school clinics, elementary schools, DARE programs and other civic organizations.
She attends coaching clinics and is a member of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association.
Prior to arriving at Illinois, Wagner spent six seasons at East Tennessee State where she served as the top assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. Before joining the basketball coaching ranks, Wagner coached volleyball at ETSU from 1986-88. During that same time period, she also acted as a teaching instructor in the East Tennessee State physical education department.
A native of Bristol, Va., Wagner earned National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) All-America honors in basketball and volleyball in 1986 at Mars Hill College in North Carolina.
Wagner was named Southeast Regional Player of the Year in 1986 and was the NAIA District 24 Most Valuable Player her senior year. She scored a school-record 2,036 points during her career, including 629 points as a junior. At the time of her departure, Wagner held game, season and career rebounding records, with 33, 467 and 1,662, in those categories, respectively. On Oct. 23, 1998, Wagner was inducted into the Mars Hill Hall of Fame. Wagner earned a bachelor's degree in physical education with a minor in recreation from Mars Hill in 1986 and a master's degree in education with an emphasis in athletic administration from East Tennessee State in 1988.
Wagner has PROVEN that she can bring in the recruits. She has a great track record and should be THE top candidate. I am fine with her or Kelly Harper. Either one will bring in a name and that is SO important right now.
I am disgusted that we would think about hiring someone just because they have been with the program for a few years. This is a make it or break it hire for the Techster program. I hope the administration has the guts to make the right decision.
Also, they need to get with the media to run BIG articles on Wagner and Harper. I think if people see their names and accomplishments, the pressure would be reduced to hire Long.
Wagner would be great for TECH. UGH! Why do they insist on Long. Maybe she can sway them! That is possible, right?! I'm just trying to cling to hope, although we already know the outcome.
Remember this??? LOL
