Pac has to add 2 more schools. Do they go for a Dallas/Houston Play? Does MWC stay at 8 or add a UTEP/NMSU? I don't see this moving any dominos for us right now. AAC is at 13 full members, plus Army/Navy, so I don't see them poaching CUSA if they lose a couple.

The Pac-12 owes the Mountain West $43 million for the four schools it is poaching, according to a copy of the scheduling agreement previously obtained by @FOS. Unless they've negotiated. But of course, the Pac has this money in a war chest from its lawsuit w departing schools.
If UTEP or NMSU is going to go, we've got to root for them both to go. Depending on what happens elsewhere, losing both might be good or bad (really a mix) for us. Losing just one is way worse than losing both or keeping both.
I guess some of those MWC schools have taken pains to "upgrade" from some of the others before, so it shouldn't be surprising that they'd do it again. But I really wonder how much better off they'll be. I guess that leftover Pac-12 money will go a long way, but while OSU and WSU are better-off (and therefore better to share a league with) than New Mexico or USU or whatever - it's still just Oregon State and Washington State. If the MWC had just stuck together, the 2-Pac would have had to have joined eventually. But that's always the case in conference realignment I guess, if the weaker conference could ever commit, they'd no longer necessarily be the weaker conference.
Oh well, some unexpected shifts might work in our favor.
We will most likely never get into the new MWC or the AAC.....i guess we will see some regional realignment between the MAC, SBC and CUSA.
Should we be hoping that Memphis and Tulane end up in the ACC and Stanford back in the Pac12? That may be our best shot......but realistically, it is probably some new regional conference.
Do we have enough ties with the AAC if Tulane and Memphis are gone to get us in there? Maybe? it would probably have to be a SMU to ACC type deal though.
A regional conference could be:
Sam Houston
Texas State
Arkansas State
Southern Miss
UL-L
UL-M
South Alabama
Louisiana Tech
Troy
Tulane and Memphis could be in the mix -
No way they take UTEP & NMST together
No one wants NMST but us
''Don't be a bad dagh..."
Needs to be renamed the PAC-State Conference.
Theoretically couldn't the members of the conference hold a vote about increasing exit fees? The example I created on the CUSA board would be like this:
"Any two members located within 50 miles of each other but located more than 400 miles from other members will be held to a different exit fee structure. 30 million dollars for one school to leave without the other, but 30,000 per school if both leave at the same time."
It would easily be a 10-2 vote and possibly 11-1 with UTEP being the lone dissent. The idea being that it would help prevent losing only one of the UTEP/NMSU pair. We could lose both or keep both but losing one makes scheduling and travel worse.
I think we need to just accept the fact that our administration thru the years destroyed any chances of us ever being considered by any respectable conference. Our performance on the field hasn't helped matters. We're toast. We're done. It was fun while it lasted. We've become a legend in our own minds. It's embarrassing.
