You tell him, Boxer. You made a great point...MT did nothing but further your argument.

There is no doubt in my mind that kids going to "big time" programs and end up in log jam at there position suffer. As MT said, if you have talent the league will find you. The question is if you have talent and the league will find you would you rather be a star or a substitute.

It's an easy decision for me.

Which is why I listed the Randall Gay and Dominick Davis examples. Some would rather be second string or special teams for an SEC, Big 12, Big 10, or Pac 10 program, then spend four years of their lives getting beat down in Ruston. The other guys who were seniors were walkons and probably wouldn't have played at Tech either.

If you are talented enough to play in the NFL, then it doesn't really matter. You will play enough to get yourself drafted, or at the very least on a roster.

If you take your scenario, why stop at mid majors. Hell, why not just bypass them and go straight down to McNeese or some 1-AA school and start every game for four years. They have guys that make the league every year.

The bottom line is the blue chip players want to play in the best facilities, benefit from coaches that have NFL experience, workout in multimillion dollars weight rooms with the best strength and conditioning coaches in the country, play in conferences that have the most national exposure and give them the best opportunity to win a championship, and that is not going to change.

I mentioned that LSU only had four senior starters, but Ben Wilkerson, LSU's starting center was injured and did not play in the last few games. It would have been five had he finished the year.

The "want to play" is the pertinent issue. We both know Gay and Davis had ample opportunity to showcase their talents. However, players like Reggie Robinson out of Shreveport would be in the league right now if they had gone to Tech. LSU has a big log-jam at the skill positions.

There is a big difference in competition between Tech and McNeese. How many players are they getting drafted this year?

Re: Who should be the #1 pick?

1.) John Paul Jones was a big recruit coming out of high school. We really wanted him, LSU wanted him, ULL got him.

If I am not mistaken there was an NCAA investigation surrounding his recruiting process...something about Baldwin "giving" a good bit of money to this kids church who turned around and gave it to his family.

Does that sound familiar to anyone else.

2.) MeauxronTiger, I agree that highly-recruited kids want the big stage...that has never been the argument. The argument is that these kids should consider going to a mid-major and shining for 3-4 years as opposed to splitting time at a big school with kids just as highly recruited as you (maybe more). Try to keep up...it's called reading comprehension.

    WRONG!

The point is, a player can't "develop" unless he's PLAYING!!!!! Any NFL coach will tell you that. I guarantee you that LSU has had some "talented players" who never made it to the NFL because they never received enough playing time at LSU.
