Smart = Play at home against ULM or Grambling or Northwestern or even SFA or McNeese or SMU.
Stupid = Play on the road against lswho or USC or Miami and miss out on a chance to add a W towards bowl eligibility.
Hmm, what to do, what to do?????

I am sure you are correct.Originally Posted by Rickeydad

Should schedule an EARLY home game that year against ULM, renew the Cajun series, or against a 1AA team preferably Grambling -
My order of choice would be -
1) ULM
2) Grambling - I really think this would be GOOD for Ruston and the area and not cause the problems most think it will...
3) Cajuns
4) Northwestern St in RUSTON
5) any state 1-AA team - Nicholls, McNeese or SLU
6) and Texas SLC school
7) Arkansas State
Those are the ONLY schools we should even consider looking at for the game -
If its early in the season the crowd, with good weather is going to push 20,000 for #4 on the list and down - any thing above could push 23,000+
Its a win/win situation for all involved -
With ULM and the Cajuns it would allow us to stagger a home and home with either one of them and UNT for the foreseeable future now that 12 games is the NORM not the exception -
Let's sit back and see if our AD and the administration has learned anything from last year -
I really think the decision with THIS game will answer than question -

A 13th game could be good for JBIII because it would give us another chance at bowl eligibility. We would need to be 7-6 with 13 and 7-5 with 12. Schedule a cupcake and JBII comes out looking good if we go bowling.
But Oakes and Dr. Dan probably won't want to pass up another body bag money game come to think of it.

Exactly - even though they now have the 12th game EVERY year to do that...Originally Posted by TechDawgFan

We should play a 13th game at Home. I believe we should add other SWAC conference teams to the mix i.e. Southern, Jackson State or Alcorn State. All three teams travel well and provide great half time entertainment.

I hear Southern thinks very HIGHLY of their self-worth and are not that easy to work with from a scheduling and $$$ point of view -Originally Posted by MADDAWGNBAMA

But I doubt the administation and powerbrokers see it that way -
I also imagine that more than a few of our posters are cringing at the fact that alot of us are advocating playing a home game with a 1-AA school and also advocating home and homes with the UL's again -

Not a bad list. I'm starting to like it more and more. I personally would move Grambling down to 4. I'd like to see someone like Baylor 1 & 1, some of the CUSA teams also 1 & 1 (Tulane, Houston, UAB) not so far away that students can't reasonably travel and go watch and support our DawgsOriginally Posted by Dwayne From Minden
I think all of us would like that -Originally Posted by DocMarvin362

Home & home's ain't going to happen with Baylor & Tulane -
Houston and UAB are reasonably possible - and should be strived for later down the road -
Get that 13th game in 06 sewn up as a home game without a return game now and it makes scheduling a "like" CUSA school as a home/home much easier down the road - because they KNOW you will go out and get a 1-AA team to fill the slot and won't try to hold you up for ransom thinking they are the only game in town you are interested in...

Part of the reason that we don't schedule a CUSA team is that we dont want to pay them to come here.
We don't have the revenue for a road game with no return. Therefore we have to pay them whatever they pay us for the return game and we dont sell enough tickets to offset that cost.
We need to sit down and schedule one - Sunbelt school and one - CUSA school (at least until we get into their conf.) on a home/home basis alternating every year. Like a RICE (or SMU, USM, UAB, UCF, etc....)and a USL (or UNT, Ark St., etc....), and coordinate it so that we wrap a fifth home game every year before we go and start setting up a 6th one. If we have a mid-major sewed up for one of them, then it really shouldn't matter who the 6th home game is with........... I think they are talking to Nicholls right now for a 6th.

You are probably correct, but if we are serious about ever seeing 30,000 in our stadium, scheduling Southern would greatly improve the odds of that happening. Especially if we can schedule them early in the season. It would definitely boost our average home attendance.Originally Posted by Dwayne From Minden

And they should. Maddawginbama is correct. If you can schedule Southern, they will travel like crazy. Now if they aren't doing too well and it's later in the season, they might not bring as much, but I'd rather play Southern than Grambling simply for attendance sake. Plus, I really like Southern's coach Richardson. To be honest, I think it would be a good labor day weekend game in Shreveport. I'd be willing to bet that Southern would bring 15k to 20k for a game there.Originally Posted by Dwayne From Minden
They played someone in Shreveport year before last the weekend we played the Cajuns down there - attendance was very week less than 15,000 but 80% of that was Southern fans -Originally Posted by Dirtydawg
I have no problem playing them - but only in Ruston -
Just saying I've heard they are HARD to negoiate with...

If I'm not mistaken, it rained pretty hard that weekend. Also, it was another SWAC school, I believe from Texas. The reason I say Shreveport on labor day is because of the casinos and the long weekend. I have no problem with playing them in Ruston. I just think that playing them in Shreveport would bring an extra 5k.Originally Posted by Dwayne From Minden
