AGREED!! What are parents thinking when they allow their daughters (I am guessing it is mostly girls) to act this way. Really this all falls at the feet of the parents. All they have to do is say NO, or my daughter is off the team. I certainly would not accept my daughter performing like that. What are we teaching our young ladies when encourage them to act like strippers? No way the state should have needed to get involved, the parents should have "fixed the problem" themselves a long time ago.

I didnt think he was being sarcastic DC. Austin "never would have guessed" that this law was sponsored by a Dem, because proposals to expand government oversight of sexuality are usually associated with the Republican agenda. :icon_wink

I was a little surprised too. (But only a little. We are talking about TEXAS, after all.)

Exactly Champs, you still ahve some good ole Dixiecrat types. The same ones that tried to shoot down civil rights despite popular belief. Some of the southern Dems are still pretty conservative, which is why the Dem party needs to get a presidential candidate form the south or sun belt since every president since after JFK was from the sunbelt. Not counting Ford, MI, because he wasnt nominated.

    Personally -

The dance moves by some of these spirit groups doesn't bother me as much as some of the music they play while they are doing these routines -

I've heard more than several "F bombs, bitches, hos and other assorted trash" blasted from the PA systems at various sporting events at both LHSAA and MPSA sponsored events -

Some people can view the hip movements to "Two bits, Four bits" as sexual - that's open to interpetation - but they REALLY need to crack down on what is being played during these dance routines -

To me this is a parenting thing. My daughters know that there is no way they are going to dance like that at the games. I don't go to my high school daughter's dances, and she may be doing some of that there. I hope she is not, and if she is, I'm sure she hopes I don't find out.

I just don't think this kind of thing can be legislated. We parents have to draw the line.

As for the music, there is no question that a move made to a cheer would look entirely different when made while dancing to a song about sex.

More satire. I hope this guy is happy with the positive image of Texas he has given the world.

i saw that show when it first came on. i have no idea why politicians and civic leaders agree to talk to those "reporters." they've got to know that they are going to be made to look like idiots. but i do have to say that that segment did point out the ridiculousness of the law...despite its tactlessness.

As out of touch as this guy is, I'm pretty sure he had never even heard of "The Daily Show", Comedy Central, or color television for that matter. Therefore, he would have had no idea of what was coming his way. I think his secretary, or whoever schedules his appointment should share some of the blame as well.
