sikm -- They Might Be Giants!!! Awesome!!!

Dwayne ... If you give me 10, I'll end up doing 20. So allow me to just stick with 5 for now.

    Here's mine...

U2 - Joshua Tree (the anthem of my life)
Clash - London Calling (punk's zenith - where the 70s meets the 80s)
Beatles – Rubber Soul (do I have to pick ONE Beatles record?)
Pearl Jam – 10 (can anyone under 30 not hear the opening riff from "Alive" without obediently banging your head?)
Beethoven – Symph. No.9 (still the masterpiece of western civilization)

    mine in no particular order:

    1. Audioslave- Audioslave. Patiently awaiting their new one.

    2. Rolling Stones- 40 licks. 40 of the best rock songs by a real rock band.

    3. Nirvana-Nirvana & Unplugged. first one is all of their best on one album. second is just unique and cool listening.

    4. Rage against the Machine- Rage against the machine. F**# you I won't do what you tell me. Enough said.

    5. Cowboy Mouth- Word of Mouth & Are you with me. Every damn song just kicks ass on both albums.

I was gonna add Cowboy Mouth to my list but didn't know which album to include.

I'll also add "Unplugged" by Eric Clapton.

    STP legit choice sikm

Despite what Champes might think of me: Joshua Tree is probably in my top 5. CCR's greatest hits, no. 1. Beatles-Abbey Road, no. 2. U2, Johua Tree, no. 3. Nickel and Dime, the grassroots style one, no. 4. Sister Hazel, Fortress, no. 5.

If I were to make a seperate top 5 list for driving albums -- ie those best-suited for an open stretch of interstate.

Cowboy Mouth - Are You With Me?
Refreshments - Fizzy Fuzzy Big & Buzzy
Bruce Springsteen - Nebraska (save the poltical commentary, please)
Gin Blossoms - New Miserable Experience
U2 - Joshua Tree (yes, again)

the second stp and a perfect circle-13th step (as odd as that may sound...to those familiar with acp) are two of my favorite driving albums.

Re: Top 5 Albums in your personal collection -

I know you said no Greatest Hits albums, but some greatest hits albums were such stand alone great albums that they became more famous that the originals. Case in point: The Eagles 1971-1975. Also, those of us that ARE old enough to remember album rock will also know that often times, a single would be released in connection to an album but not included on the album. THe only way to have the single would be to buy the single itself (which you can't get anymore) or hope it makes its way to the greatest hits. Look at the Beatles. Here is a list of SOME of the Beatles songs that were not included on a Long Play album:

    -Hey Jude
    -Revolution
    -We Can Work it Out
    -Don't Let Me Down
    -I Wanna Hold Your Hand
    -I Feel Fine
    -Day Tripper
    -Paperback Writer

That being said, here is my list:

    Top 5 Altogether:

    1. White Album
    2. Eagles Greatest Hits 1971-1975
    3. Abbey Road
    4. Best of Joe Pass
    5. Getz/Gilberto

    Top 5 Road Trip Albums:

    1. Dark Side of the Moon
    2. Negotiations and Love Songs (Paul Simon)
    3. Hotel California
    4. Don Williams 20 Greatest
    5. Abbey Road/White Album (Some great things defy classification)
