Wow Salty...we agree. I've actually heard from an aquaintence(sp) of mine who is very successful in the business world that Chinese auto manufacturers are about to change the entire auto industry. He imagines that US manufacturers will have to join up (ala Chrysler) or face certain financial death. Things are strapped enough for US auto manufacturers. This guy says that the Chinese are producing BMW quality cars at a fraction of the price. I know, it sounds too incredible to be true, but this guy is rarely wrong when it comes to business.

To All: Sorry that I posted that long list of "lies" (probably written by some socialist in NYC) because there is just too many areas to cover. Take for example, the media. I'm not sure the media is liberal or conservative (except for NPR which has a open, progressive outlook which some would call liberal) but rather that the media presents a slant which promotes the corporate agenda.

Yep, Johnny, Asian has undergone a major transformation over the last 30 years. I travel there once every 3 or 4 years and am always amazed by the amount of change. Take for example, Manila. 30 years ago it was a big city that didn't have serious traffic problems and they basically rolled up the sidewalks at night. Now, it can take 4 hours to go cross-town and at 2 AM the roads are packed with vehicles and people like it was 2PM! China has moved into all the high-tech fields and like you mentioned it is going into car production. There are 1.5 billion Chinese and most will work hard for a few dollars a day. I would not be surprise to find out out that China will soon have more millionaires than the USA!!!!

If any of that crap was true, the Liberal Times, CNN, and any other news source outside of Fox News would be spewing taht crap all over TV. There is no backing to it or we would all know about it because it would be shoved down our throats.

The point, DH, is that a number of people only watch FOX "news" or listen to Rush or one of those other corporate mouthpieces.

Let's pick a topic, say global warming, what do you know or think about that topic?

To be honest, I dont know what to believe. You hear conflicting reports on it all of the time. No matter what station you turn it to. It is science, a very hard thing to predict. There are so many differing opinions and I, not being a scientist, have no idea which to believe because I dont know enough about it.

And by proof I don't mean some garbage spewed out by Al Franken or his ilk!!!
I'll try. It's a little hard to provide "reasonable proof or documentation" that a newspaper is conservative or not, so I chose those that endorsed GHW Bush, Bob Dole and GW Bush both times over the last four presidential election cycles. There's more than seven, I can assure you.
By the way, I love the word "ilk" too.

Yeh it is hard to define, especially the Chicago Tribune. I remember some editorials backing Bush, but I also remember them defending Kerry. But those are the things you have to do to seem not one-sided I guess. It is also hard to believe since Chicago is overwhelmingly liberal as a city. Pretty wierd combo. Also, the WSJ is usually up for the backing of anybody Rep because of the way Rep handle money, usually.

I been subscribing to Scientific American for about 10 years now, and they have published, over the years, a number of articles about global warming. As each year goes by, the articles gain more and more credibility. Basically, it is a very simple concept. The temperature of the planet is regulated by the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere. The higher the amount of CO2 the hotter the biosphere. Currently, we are adding about 3.5 parts per million of CO2 per year, but 2ppm is absorbed by the oceans and biomass so the net gain to the atmosphere is 1.5 ppm. The danger is that the oceans and biomass will become saturated so that all of the CO2 enters the atmosphere. If that were to happen the temperature (climate) would more quickly change. How, nobody really knows except that it would upset the applecart of what is currently accepted as normal.

We don't notice the change in the Southern part of the US becomes the warming climate affects the very low end of the temperature scale. Go up to Alaska and you will quickly see that global warming is a very real event.

:"Junkman" Steven Milloy has made a career of lobbying for polluting industries, heading corporate front groups to deny environmental concerns, and ridiculing individual environmentalists on behalf of corporate interests. In the world according to Milloy, any scientific study that does not support the world view where all chemicals are safe is "junk science", all environmentalists are alarmist, and pollution and second hand smoke are harmless. The labels fly fast and furious, regardless of where the scientific mainstream falls on an issue and regardless of what point we are at in the scientific discovery process.

Interestingly, Milloy denies he was ever a lobbyist. In 1998, while executive director of the Advancement of Sound Science Coalition, he replied to an inquiry into whether he was a lobbyist: "I do not lobby for ANYONE. Before I became executive director of TASSC, I did some technical consulting for a D.C. firm which had the policy of registering all its employees and consultants as lobbyists (whether or not they lobbied) pursuant to a new law passed in 1995. I am aware of the listing and have asked it to be corrected since I no longer work for that firm. I challenge anyone to produce any evidence that I have ever lobbied any government official for anything."

However, Milloy shows up in federal lobbyist registration data for 1997 as having lobbying expenditures on his behalf, indicating his firm, the EOP Group, believed him to be an active lobbyist, "technical" or otherwise. The same federal records indicate Milloy represented the American Petroleum Institute, FMC Corp, Fort Howard, International Food Additives Council, and Monsanto. Interestingly, according to these records, Milloy lobbied for Monsanto on the subject of "food safety and labeling", which is lobbyist speak for "biotech foods". (Center for Responsive Politics, Lobbyist Database) According to the Washington Representatives, Milloy was still registered as a lobbyist with the EOP Group in 1999, with the American Petroleum Institute and FMC Corp listed as clients. (1999 Washington Representatives).

The WSJ doesn't endorse, but I agree it wouldn't be hard to predict their choices if they did. Now, if that's because of the way Republicans handle money, the WSJ must agree with Dick Cheney that deficits don't matter.

Yeah, it is a dated symbol. Back in "the good old days" when 90% of the population lived on farms and depended upon the jackass to survive, it was a more appropriate symbol. Now, with everyone living the cities we have forgotten our past.
