Actually, last year we should have beaten Texas Tech and Texas. In both games we led with under a minute left. If you'll remember, Texas Tech beat #5 Cal(who almost beat USC) in the Holiday Bowl. Texas won the Rose Bowl. Is that to say we are better than these teams? No. But we certainly have the talent and coaching to be competitive with the highest level teams.DREAM ON ! ! ! !

That's kinda like sayin we beat Fresno St. last year but they beat Kansas St.
Kansas got robbed in the Texas game on a bogus interference call. I saw it on tv.Originally Posted by rockchalk

I think that the really interesting thing is that you sound like an awful lot like a lot of Tech fans. What we should be able to do and what we actually do don't usually meet. Kansas is definately improved and it should be interesting to see how it fairs in the still weak Big 12 North.Originally Posted by rockchalk
However I think that the game should be a good one. I'm just trying to hold on until football season gets here.
What do we think our record would have been against Kansas' schedule last season?
They hosted Tulsa, Toledo (a 9-4 bowl team), Texas Tech, Kansas State, Colorado and Texas.
They played at Northwestern, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Iowa State and Missouri.
How many of us think we would have won four games? I'd say it was possible, but very iffy. We did beat Tulsa, of course. Kansas massacred Toledo. I don't think Toledo had hit their stride yet early in the season. We might have won that one at home. Other than that, we might have beaten Kansas State at home and/or Missouri on the road, but that's about the only two I see we would have had a chance at. Kansas didn't benefit from having SMU and Rice on their schedule like we did. After the first two non-conference games, there were no breathers on their schedule.
If we were playing Kansas at home I would like our chances, but I think they are definitely favored since they get to play us in Lawrence.
I really think both teams are about on the same level now, especially since Tech's fallen quite a bit in the Bicknell-era since the WAC championship. It will be a good game probably, no matter who wins it. It should be close, but I really believe we have this one if the team shows up. The Florida game's another matter of course, but I like this one. At least we get to come back home and smackdown New Mexico State afterward.
Kansas will clean our clock at Lawrence, period.
It has been the track record of teams that schedule us to have their best years when we play. For most of the last 40 years we could have cleaned Tulane's clocks and in the one year we play, they put it all together and go 12-0. We play LSU once (never got a shot at Curly or Dinardo) and they win the NC, sneaking in the championship game because of SoS based on our game with Hawaii and H's late win. (Don't get me started about why the last few Big 12 teams should NOT have been given a shot at the national championship in the base case. Especially when they got blown out in the Big 12 chumpionship game. And OK better than Auburn? not even close, ok, I got myself started). We schedule Auburn and they go undefeated. I think the last time Wyoming had a good team, we played them. Of course the last time Alabama won the NC, we played them and gave them their best game of the year. Then the last time Alabama won the SEC, we played them (Well, they won it after we beat them. I still think MJL's hit on Shaun Alexander was one of the best ever).
So, this could be your break out year, based on past history. I hope it is a "pull yourself together after a tough loss and refocus" year. At any rate, it sounds like it should be a tough game.
Some of y'all are underestimating KU. Their defense is gonna be on another level. Their defense is a legit top-25 defense.
I really don't know about their offense though. They have certainly shown in the last few years that they are capable of a very bad day but if I were looking at this without any partiality I would say the line should be Kansas by 17. They almost beat Texas and there were questionable calls in UT's favor. I think that same UT team would have beaten us by roughly 40-50 points last year.
I really think we can upset them but it would definetely be an upset. We are not on their level right now. They have a much better head coach and are at home. I'll say this though if we go deep with any success early in the game and they have to lay back off the L.O.S. our RB's will eat them up. The problem is, when was the last season where we could go deep with any consistency? Our WR's are mega-fast but inconsistent with routes and hands. After playing at Penn St. , A&M , Auburn , Miami , Tennesee , Fresno St. , Clemson , Mich St. and now Florida and so on the last few years I doubt our players are gonna be very intimidated by Kansas. If we don't turn the ball over it will be close.
DAG,
Is your Big12 bashing anyway related to living in Baton Rouge and constantly listening to all the Tiger fans harp on how overrated every conference is except the beloved SEC??
Please don't tell me that you don't think that USC is for real. Here in BR, I got SICK of hearing all the PAC 10 bashing when USC split the national title with LSU two years ago. Remember the "FUSC" bumper stickers? However, after last season, I haven't heard a word about USC being overrated. lsu is on top of their game right now, but they want no part of USC this season. My animosity for lsu actually results in me pulling for the Trojans.
Anyway, I've learned down here in BR that you really have to watch out for the BR/lsu bias...it is everywhere.
I proudly wear my LaTech shirts and hats every day to work at LSU. They just had to get used to it. I will say that I did kinda lean on the anti-USC side though 'cause they didn't win the NC. Sure, it should've been LSU vs. USC for the big game, but oh well. Plus.. I like both teams, only I love LaTech WAAAAAY more than I like LSU. Sugar Bowl was fun though. Ah well.. BEAT KANSAS!!!!!! GO DAWGS!!!
Ktulu7-
I am in the same boat. I have been going to LSU law for the last 3 years, always sporting my Tech stuff. I find most people at LSU to actually like Tech alright. The only real Tech haters at LSU are north louisiana kids that came to LSU to get away from home.
That being said- I hope you weren't working here in 2003. It was a rough week following that poor excuse of a football game here in BR.
