    From Mike D's Football World

    Interesting comments about Williams....

Louisiana Tech has always been noted for having developed one of the most high-powered offenses in college football, and this season many scouts will take the trip to Ruston to watch former Independence High School and All-American senior offensive guard Aaron Lips, but they will also take a hard look at senior cornerback Tramon Williams.

Williams, a former Assumption High School standout, started seven games for the Bulldogs last season, and he registered four pass interceptions and nine pass breakups.

One veteran Western Athletic Conference scout says Williams is the most improved defensive player in the conference over the past year.

"Tramon (Williams) really has improved over the past year and a half," the scout said. "This young man has very good coverage skills, excellent foot speed, and every day at practice, he goes against a pro-style offensive system. Keep a close eye on this young man this year. In high school, he played wide receiver, and he plays the ball just like an offensive player. He looks like a real good NFL prospect."

Man, that is great. I didn't think he was that big of a NFL prospect. We need him bad. Seems like our db's have been our weakness the last couple of years. W/ him and one of those juco corners, we should be ok at that position.

The truth is, since Louisiana Tech joined the WAC, we've always had DB's in great position to grab int's........But Williams is just one of the few that can actually CATCH a football.

I look forward to this young man (Williams) grabbing 10 int's this fall. That's very doable in a conference that throws as much as the WAC does. By November, Williams will feel like "a kid in a candy store".

"and he plays the ball just like an offensive player. He looks like a real good NFL prospect."

Could it be that he plays the BALL and doesn't try to face-guard all the time with his back to the QB? I think this is why he's going to be good. If you look at the INT he had against Fresno St to seal the game, he was watching the QB, and broke to the ball, not watching the receiver but keeping him close. That's what good DB's do.

On that Int, I don't even remember the reciever looking back for the ball, but then again I was going crazy in the stands.

Olford played the ball. He went on to lead the WAC in int's or was close to it.
