    Kix Brooks

This may have already been discussed. Sorry if I missed it. I stopped on PBS yesterday while they were showing the "Louisiana Legends" induction. Brooks was one of the inductees. There were several mentions of Tech. He did a great job with his speech. What an asset to Tech!

Only person in the history of TECH to have a #1 song while still a student at TECH -
    ''Don't be a bad dagh..."

    He wrote -

"Modern Day Romance" for the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band while he was still at TECH -

And I believe it climbed all the way to #1 on the charts -
    ''Don't be a bad dagh..."

The only Top 10 hit the NGDB had was "Mr. Bojangles" written by Jerry Jeff Walker...Kix graduated in either 1978 or 1979; he spent a semester at SMU as a freshman...that is all I can add to this thread.

The second Website is their official Website. Modern Day Romance was part of Partners, etc. album from the 80's. I believe it went number one, as well as fishin in the dark and long hard romance. I got that from the first site.

By 1982, they had switched back to their country roots, re-taking the name "The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band", and welcoming Jim Ibbotson back with them again. The album, "Let's Go", released in the middle of 1983, heralded their return to country music and started a string of 16 Top Ten country hits, of which three, "Long, Hard Road", "Modern Day Romance" and "Fishin' In The Dark" went to number one.

I could have swore he said he was still in school when he wrote it - he might of been, he just might not be able to "shop it" until later -

Anyway, he wrote it and it went to #1...

Yeh, that is what I figured. He wrote it while at Tech, then had it picked up when he went to Nashville or wherever afterwards.

I can verify that. I had a couple of classes with him. He used to work on songs in class. In fact, he got stuck on the lysrics of that very song and I helped him out.

From my knowledge of songwriters and song publishing, it is very possible that he wrote the song years before it's being recorded and release. In fact, he probably started it in college and finished it later.
