Hiram Eugene in NFL Supplemental Draft

Just read about this - Hiram Eugene, CB, is entering the NFL Supplemental Draft. He ran the 40 yard dash in 4.42 seconds, had a 35-inch vertical leap and had a standing broad jump of 10 feet, 8 inches, all considered good marks for a potential professional football player. Scouts from several NFL teams were in attendance.

Didn't he have another year of eligibility? What is his story; why wasn't he playing more with such physical talent?

I asked that myself. He was expected to make a HUGE contribution when he came in as a juco. I only saw him play on special team last year. I asked this question all last year. maybe he was a stud at the juco level and couldn't make the transition to the D1 level. Here is his bio:

2003: Redshirted ... Junior College: Played two years for Coach Tim Hatten at Pearl River Community College ... Named second team All-South Division of the Mississippi Junior Colleges in 2002 ... Helped lead Pearl River to the South Division Championship in 2002 ... High School: Lettered three years for Coach Zebulon Simon at Jeanerette High School ... Earned all-district honors and all-state honors in both 1997 and 1999 at free safety and wide receiver ... Also earned all-state honors in basketball and track and field (high jump and long jump) in 1999 ... Getting Acquainted: Son of Jeanette and Wayne Eugene ... Has four brothers, Wayne, Domonic, Desmond and Brandon, and one sister, Sentell ... Born Nov. 24, 1980, in Lafayette, La. ... Will turn 24 late in the season.

I wish him the best and hope he does well. He may be a career special teams player in the NFL.

I think it had to more with him being an underclassman.

I thought he got hurt early on during the season. Then he saw limited action towards the end. I thought it was his ankle or something.

That's a shame. You'd think that a guy with such abilities would make an impact. But, I guess he's just one more in a long line of "could've been's" with great raw talent and a lot of hype. Oh well, maybe he'll pan out at the next level.

Nicholls announced him as part of their signing class last Feb.

Apparently one spring at a D1-AA was enough for him to think he could make the jump to the NFL.
