How 'bout move the band from the lower level of the 50 yard line to the top level. I've never been to a college football game and the band has the best seats in the stadium except for Tech. I like the band, and I think it's part of the college football tradition, but it shouldn't hurt them to move up to the upper section.Originally Posted by MICKEYS14
That is quite true. It's always struck me as a little odd, too. I don't think it really hurts attendance, and it's not like you can't get a good seat by just showing up a few minutes early, but it's still odd...Originally Posted by soccer_dawg9

Put simply, we must have a legitimate jumbo tron to enhance the game experience. All kinds of possibilities start with a big screen and sound system.
Well we are going to be having a concert right before the pep rally for the homecoming game to try and keep people there for the weekend. We are looking at concerts after the game.Originally Posted by dawgcrazy

EASY!!! Think about it... The students are staying up at the parties until 3 and 4 in the morning, then they can make it home for a few hours to rest up, then have to get up in time to make it to the game by NOON AND 2 FREAKIN PM!!!!!!!!!! heheOriginally Posted by KSDAWG
OK, enough with the sarcasm. I do have a few ideas that I would love to hear the debate on them.
#1. Teach "#1techfan" how to spell FOOTBALL!!!! (see thread title)
#2. I would love to have the staff start up a Tech Spirit Day. Have teachers, secretaries, custodians, EVERYONE to wear Tech gear on game days. I would think that most students do and would follow along very well. Just imagine seeing 10,000 Red and Blue shirts right before a game day.
#3. A FRIDAY NIGHT PEP RALLY!!!! Have a nice sized pep band show up, the cheerleaders, pom pom girls, as many players as we can get, and most importantly... CAN WE GET SOME COACHES TO SHOW UP!!!!! AND MAKE SURE THAT THEY BRING SOME ENTHUSIASM IN TO PUMP UP THE FANS!!!! Just something let us know that our team is ready, we are prepared for our opponents, and that's it's going to be well worth our time to show up.
#4. Bring back some of the well known Tech alumni. At almost every game's halftime, they march out someone and present them with some award that no one knows who they are or what they do/did. I can't remember the details, but I remember Kix Brooks coming for a game, and we presented him with an award. That was in 1997 and it was my first Tech game, so i have no clue what it was for. But I remember that he was at the game, and that the stands seemed packed. Let's invite Mr. Malone, Mr. Bradshaw, Rattay, Luke, GITMO, Mr. Roaf, and all of the atheletes that are Tech's sports Hall of Fame. I know that the current football guys wouldn't be able to come or we'd have to catch them on a bye week, but if we don't ask them back, they DEFINANTLY won't come.
#5. I know that I wrote a number 5, but for some reason when I tried to submit it, it all cleared away and it didn't post... I was so mad. I'll try and remember it and post it later.
The only thing that makes me nervous about the live bands is that we can get people who want to bring their RV, and play their own type of music. The band would almost have to be seperate from this group to avoid steeping on anyone's toes. I currently know of a few bands that should be really interested if anyone can get in touch with them. American Tragedy, Built for Speed, Louisiana Tech's own Squint.
Jim Robken used to post on this forum. But he stopped, probably under threat to his job, but also, I think, because of the criticism of Nancy Bergeon, the source of that Gawd-awful voice. She is not merely bad, she is horrible!Originally Posted by Rooster
I started posting complaints about her back in 1998. Well, she's still here, so little good that did. I know Robken is aware of our complaints, but he is either unwilling or unable to do anything about it.
I have had several guests at Tech games, usually LSU fans, and the "voice" is one thing they remember, with a look of disgust.
Well, look at the brightside, the band does have new unis!
Since you are giving spelling lessons, look in your own post.Originally Posted by DocMarvin362

Give people a reason to stay after the game. A great idea!!Originally Posted by #1techfan

With music and concerts you can't please 25% of the crowd -
Team up with a casino and GOEX and have a 30 to 40 minute fireworks show after the game -

We are looking into prices for fireworks after a game, we just need to pick a game that we know we should win b/c who wants to go watch fireworks after we lose? But fireworks is something we are definately looking into, but we are going to have to get a professional company to come out and do it so we need to pick wisely. I am thinking maybe the Homecoming game or the New Mexico St. game.Originally Posted by Dwayne From Minden

The idea of the band we are going to put the band by the Student tailgating area, which is right across from the soccer/rugby field. We are definately going to have a performer for the Homecoming game. I think we really need to work hard at the spectical of the Homecoming game just b/c its the homecoming game.
Let me know what ya'll think of this idea. We are thinking of moving the pep rallies from Friday nights to Saturdays like 2-3 hours before the game. What do ya'll think. Do you think its a good idea or do you think that we should leave them to the Friday nights. If we have them on Saturday we won't have any coaches or football players. If we do it on Friday night I am going to garuantee that we will have football players and coaches at the pep rally to get people pumped up about the game. So let me know which one ya'll think would work the best.
We are looking into getting the casinos to sponsor some stuff for our game and after the game entertainment. There was one concern about that though, some people are concerned about the politics of Ruston, that they won't like the fact that we got the casinos to sponsor stuff. Do you think that would cause a problem. In my opinion I don't care what the people of Ruston think, but I don't want it to jeopardize our athletic program b/c some of those people are our season ticket holders. I think that those people need to grow up, persoanlly.
About the band announcer, we can't do anything about that. Robken is a very stubbourn baby, in my opinion. He thinks that he runs the show and he doesn't like to do stuff that we bring to him so I really don't think that things with the band will change too much.
We are also looking into gettting a big Kid's Zone for young kids and then we are looking at getting things for college age students and high school age. We are looking at like Rock Climbing Walls and football target throws and things like that. Do ya'll think that that is a good idea?
Please let me know what ya'll think of all these things and if you have any ideas of how to improve some of them or have better ideas please let me know.
P.S. DocMarvin, my finger slipped when I typed the title and I didn't realize it until after a had submitted the thread so just don't worry about how it is splet, and I can spell FOOTBALL!!! so there you go.
Are you part of the SGA or Union Board? You keep referring to we. Anyway I think that you should consider moving the Pep Rally to before the games the Friday night pep rallys never really went over well except for maybe homecoming. I like the fireworks idea for some reason that really gets people excited. Plus if it takes a Casino to help better the athletic department so be it. I think the reason that we are in the situation we are in is because of the Ruston politics. If it makes some people mad so be it. You are not going to make everyone happy. As far as the concert before the game that was done last year didnt go over well. Unless is a big name I wouldnt even bother with it. The band announcer makes me scream. And I'm with soccer_dawg move the band I think there are enough smart students who know the cheers that they dont need the band to hold their hand. At least it seemed like that last year. Finally you gotta spend money to make money no rink a dink prizes give away something worthwhile to students. IT doesnt have to be a full scholarship but books for a quarter would go a long way. And make it that 5 to 10 people could win not just one. Finally t-shirts people eat that up especially college students. I wish that Tech would make a game day t-shirt for every individual opponent ala LSU or other SEC schools. You dont have to give them away although it would be huge sell for cheap $5 to 10 bucks.Originally Posted by #1techfan
Please DON'T move the pep rallys from Friday nights!!!! There is a tradition starting there and I understand last year it started to really grow....
Tell me is the "LunaTech" award still given out at the rally? Someone told me it was last year and that's the 3rd year for it--once again --even small --"a tradition" to keep going...
The casinos are very careful when it comes to sponsoring a student function--the 21 year old thing you understand...not to mention Tech is very careful about it also--that may need to be ditched or at least inquired about to the TOWER...
Last year I know Kimberly Ludwig the SGA Pres did a lot of work to get the students involved in the games...she did an outstanding job not only there but with all her activities year round...
We here at the radio station along with the Alumni Asso paid for bands for ALL home games last year--they were in tailgate alley....it didn't work too well...but we tried...there will be no bands in that area this year to my knowledge...
I would like to see a huge bunch of folks meet the Band after they "serenade" the Prez at his home...when they get out of there and start their march thru Tailgate alley...students following them and getting pumped on the music etc and walking with them through the alley...
Skydivers are always cool--brave and cool....fireworks -always a favorite of all ages....
We have been working on tailgating for 9 years now with on air live remotes etc and trying to create excitement--Ronny has worked hard and there are super ideas out there....but nothing beats winning games....and thank God we have 6pm home games except for homecoming..those early games were killers for tailgating...
The more people get excited about partying for tailgating and the more people each one invites to their party --it will grow........last year was probably the best it has been --just think if we'd have won some more games---
So start early--NOT 2 hours before kickoff----start Friday night with the party--keep it going....get people there early keep it rockin ...get in the stadium early and GET IT rockin.........
