@MattBelison: NEW: Sonny Cumbie will turn play-calling duties over to Co-OC/OL coach Nathan Young for #LATech moving forward. SC will still coach QBs.
SC: "I have to own the fact that we haven’t played very well on offense."

At least a year too late. Anything would be an improvement for at least one game. In my opinion it’s a huge statement of failing for a former OC to say he doesn’t have a feel for his team to call the right play.
If play-calling was our only flaw, I would applaud this move. Alas, we have other issues, namely a horrific OL, poor conditioning, lack of football IQ, and really, too many players who are not Div 1 FBS quality. Oh, and a staff better served in FCS.
I believe Cumbie has realized he sucks and can’t coach.
This is basically an admission that he is wasting Tech’s money and is incompetent.
Cumbie is capable of play-calling. He has years of examples of being able to do that. But I've been wanting this for a while because I don't love it when the Head Coach is also calling plays. He's got to be thinking about the whole game. That first year staff had like 4-5 guys who had been OCs and called plays before, I thought this would have happened during year 1 or 2. Young as been an OC before, but based on resumes I would have assumed Parr would have had more experience calling plays.
Cumbie is scrambling to set the stage for blaming someone other than himself for the pitiful offense. No way will Cumbie be hands-off. He will start the stage to say "see- I told you so. Jech cannot provide the wherewithal to attract good players."
Maybe our new AD told SC "fix things quickly, or you'll be gone at year end". This is Cumbie's attempt to "fix things"...
Waiting until the end of the year is not a positive statement to the fans. Once he loses his chance at six wins (on paper) he should be fired. It's obvious we have a total rebuild on our hands just like we did when they FINALLY fired Holtz.
"His offensive philosophy should fit in well with the Bulldog faithful. High-octane football is craved at Joe Aillet Stadium on Saturdays in the fall".
This was the quote from the press release in December 2021 when he was hired. Wasn't he supposed to be the offensive guru?? Simply awful.
I don't think changing who calls the offensive plays will change much. It's the culture that is lacking and that is on Cumbie. Not too long ago he belittled the BTB guy in front of his team. Cumbie lacks character.
Crumbie’s prior OC successes were under another coach’s recruiting, player development, team mindset and discipline. Essentially all the things that Crumbie hasn’t done and can’t do. It’s not particularly hard to express other people’s accomplishment work. What’s harder is for someone very much limited like CC is to do his own accomplishing work. The Jech job has proven to be way too big for him and everyone knows it including the players. That’s the main reason 9 offensive starters portalled out after last season.
If he is 1-7 or 2-6 at the end of October he needs to be given an apple and a road map. I he is not let go at that point it reflects on the ineptitude of our President and AD. I guess we’ll see in a few weeks.
Apple and a road map!
I'm an asshole! What's your excuse?
Just an apple (dont want him to starve, no ill will as a person), but if he can't find his way out of the metropolis that is Ruston without a map, then let nature do it's thing! We don't have the money to waste on getting him a map anyway.
