Shreveport Will Play Host to Tulane's First Football Game of 2005 Green Wave to Face Mississippi State at Independence Stadium on Sept. 17

    Sept. 8, 2005

DALLAS, Texas - The Tulane Green Wave football team, displaced from its hometown of New Orleans by Hurricane Katrina on August 29, will make its 2005 debut on Saturday, Sept. 17 in Independence Stadium in Shreveport, La., Tulane, Conference USA and Shreveport officials announced Thursday. The game, versus SEC foe Mississippi State, will be nationally-televised beginning at 7 p.m. by College Sports Television.

"This is the first step and a significant event in the healing process for our Tulane athletics community, our university, our city and all those affected throughout the Gulf South," said Tulane Director of Athletics Rick Dickson. "We're very pleased to be able to announce this today and I am very appreciative of all those involved from the city of Shreveport, from Independence Stadium and from Mississippi State."

Following its evacuation from New Orleans on Sunday, August 28, the Tulane football team went to Jackson, Miss., where it rode out the storm in a gym at Jackson State University, before making its way to Dallas, where the team has been practicing since last Wednesday. Tulane spent the past week arranging for its student-athletes across all sports to be placed in universities throughout Texas, as well as at Louisiana Tech in Ruston, La., where the Green Wave football players will be attending classes and practicing.

"This game is important in our efforts to rebuild and maintain some stability and normalcy for our student athletes and staff," said Tulane Athletic Director Rick Dickson. "Once we were given the charge by our president to carry the torch, be the face and represent the name of Tulane University, then the step-by-step process of putting our programs and student athletes and coaches in place took precedence. Now, the ability to compete will be symbolic. I am very proud of all of them and of everyone that is making this come together."

The City of Shreveport and the Independence Stadium staff will run the operations of the game with assistance from Conference USA and the Tulane athletics staff.

"The City of Shreveport is happy to be in a position to assist Tulane during this very trying time," said Mayor Keith Hightower. "We are encouraging our citizens to support the Green Wave by attending the game, and are asking our corporate citizens to help offset the loss of home game revenues in New Orleans."

Tickets for the game are $35 for sideline general admission seats and $20 for end zone general admission and will be sold via Ticketmaster at www.Ticketmaster.com, by calling 800-488-5252 or at Ticketmaster outlets in Louisiana and Mississippi. Tickets will go on sale Friday at Noon.

Tulane season ticket holders that have not received their tickets and will be attending the game should notify the Green Wave athletic department via e-mail at tulane7@c-usa.org.

Mississippi State Athletics also announced that it would waive its $200,000 game guarantee and encourage its fans who have already purchased tickets but cannot attend the game to forego a refund and have the cost of their ticket donated to Tulane Athletics.

"We fully understand the terrific strain Tulane University has been under in coping with this tragedy," said MSU Director of Athletics Larry Templeton. "We are doing everything we can to assist Tulane in its hurricane recovery efforts."

"We are thankful to the great people of Shreveport for their support," said Conference USA Commissioner Britton Banowsky, who has worked closely with Dickson, Templeton and local officials to arrange the game. "We know it is going to be an awesome event."

Both CSTV: College Sports Television and the i Network (formerly PAX) will air the Tulane - Mississippi State game live from Shreveport, and the company has announced that all commercial proceeds are being donated to specially created funds focused on restoring the area. Monies will be divided between Conference USA's Relief Fund and CSTV's Field & Dreams Rebuilding Fund. The evening's programming, being called "The Big Game for the Big Easy," will include specially produced features and entertainment elements designed to share the stories of the hope and rebirth of the region.

    -- Roll Wave --

The Fields & Dreams Foundation was established by CSTV Networks , in partnership with the Boys and Girls Clubs of America, to help underserved elementary and junior high school students improve social, academic and personal development through organized sports. The foundation Chairman is Former U.S. Senator and basketball legend Bill Bradley. The Rebuilding Fund will focus on restoring athletic programs and rebuilding facilities in those areas of the country affected by Hurricane Katrina.

    Re: Tulane 2005 Schedule

Tulane Football Coming Home to Southeast Louisiana on October 1 Baton Rouge's Tiger Stadium to Host Tulane-Southeastern Louisiana Game

    Sept. 18, 2005

DALLAS, Texas - The Tulane Green Wave football team, displaced from its New Orleans home by Hurricane Katrina, will play its next home game on Oct. 1 in LSU's Tiger Stadium, Tulane Athletic Director Rick Dickson announced Sunday.

Although all Tulane University homecoming activities originally scheduled for that weekend have been postponed, the contest will mark a true "coming home" for the Tulane football team, which will return to southeast Louisiana for the first time since evacuating the city on August 28. The Wave squad is headquartered in Ruston, La. for the fall semester and made its 2005 debut Saturday versus Mississippi State at Independence Stadium in Shreveport.

"I want to thank [athletic director] Skip Bertman, [senior associate athletic director] Dan Radakovich and everyone at LSU for providing us with the opportunity to bring the Tulane football team back to southeast Louisiana," Dickson said. "With so many New Orleanians and Tulane fans now living in Baton Rouge and the surrounding areas, this will provide many of them with the opportunity to see the Green Wave for the first time this year."

LSU has offered the use of Tiger Stadium to Tulane, and the Green Wave will receive all ticket proceeds. Tickets for the game are $30 for sideline general admission seats and $10 for end zone general admission, and will be sold via Ticketmaster at www.Ticketmaster.com, by calling 800-488-5252 or at Ticketmaster outlets in Louisiana and Mississippi. Tickets will go on sale this week, with the exact date to be announced.

Tulane will work with LSU athletics department and Tiger Stadium staff to run the operations of the game, which will take place on the same weekend that the Tigers play at Mississippi State. Tiger Stadium will also be the site of several New Orleans Saints home games in 2005.

"I am glad we are able to help our neighboring schools in Hammond and New Orleans find a home for their football game," said LSU athletics director Skip Bertman. "Tiger Stadium is a great venue for any football game, and we look forward to hosting Tulane and Southeastern Louisiana on our campus."

Tulane football season ticket holders who have purchased their 2005 season tickets will be able to pick up tickets for the Southeastern Louisiana game on game day. All Tulane, LSU and Southeastern Louisiana students with a school ID will be admitted free.

Sunday's announcement is the latest collaboration between the two most prominent Division I-A programs in Louisiana, which are located just 70 miles away from each other in the southeast portion of the state, the area directly impacted by Hurricane Katrina. Tulane and LSU set the NCAA Baseball Super Regional attendance record in 2001, established a national collegiate baseball attendance record a year later with a game in the Superdome and the two teams are scheduled to play in both men's and women's basketball again this season. Earlier this summer, Tulane and LSU announced that they would begin a 10-year, home-and-home football series beginning in 2006.

"Over the last several years, we have developed a great partnership with LSU, and have worked together to promote college athletics in this state," Dickson said. "It is no surprise that they have come forward now to support us and we hope that fans across the region will do the same on October 1st."

Tulane-Houston Game on October 8 To Be Played in Lafayette, Louisiana Louisiana-Lafayette's Cajun Field Will Play Host to Green Wave's Third Home Game

    Sept. 21, 2005

DALLAS, Texas - Tulane's third "home" football game of the season, a Conference USA West Division clash versus Houston on Oct. 8, will be played at Cajun Field in Lafayette, La., Green Wave athletic director Rick Dickson announced Wednesday. Kickoff at the home stadium of Louisiana-Lafayette will be at 5 p.m. (Central) as the game will be televised nationally on the i Network (formerly PAX TV).

Displaced from its New Orleans home for the fall semester by Hurricane Katrina, the Tulane Football team will play its third straight home game in a Louisiana city other than its own. The Green Wave opened its home schedule Sept. 17 versus Mississippi State in Shreveport, La. and will play intra-state foe Southeastern Louisiana on Oct. 1 in Baton Rouge. The Tulane team is headquartered in Ruston, La., attending classes at Louisiana Tech University and using the athletic facilities, office and meeting space provided by the Bulldogs.

"It's great to be able to play our third straight `home' game in our home state," Dickson said. "We know that many of our fans have relocated along the I-10 corridor from Baton Rouge to Houston and with its central location in that region, Lafayette will be a great site for this game. [ULL Athletic Director] David Walker and his staff have been very gracious in offering to host this game and we appreciate their support."

Louisiana-Lafayette, which will play Florida Atlantic on Thursday, Oct. 6 prior to the Tulane-Houston game, has offered the use of Cajun Field to Tulane, and the Green Wave will receive all ticket proceeds. Tickets for the game are $30 for premium general admission seats and $10 for standard general admission, and will be sold via Ticketmaster at www.Ticketmaster.com, by calling 800-488-5252 or at Ticketmaster outlets in Louisiana and Mississippi. Tickets will go on sale Monday, Sept. 26th.

Tulane football season ticket holders who have purchased their 2005 season tickets will be able to pick up tickets for the Houston game in advance of the game at a site to be determined. All Tulane, Louisiana-Lafayette and Houston students with a school ID will be admitted free.

"We're happy to offer any and all assistance to our friends at Tulane," said Ragin' Cajuns athletic director David Walker. "Lafayette is a great city for football and Cajun Field is a wonderful place to watch a football game. I hope that all of our guests from Tulane and Houston feel welcome."

Athletic departments throughout the nation have stepped forward to support Tulane Athletics ever since Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath forced the University to suspend classes for the fall semester, scattering Green Wave student-athletes to four different campuses at Louisiana Tech (football, women's track and field), Texas A&M (men's basketball, women's soccer, women's swimming & diving, women's volleyball, men's and women's tennis), Texas Tech (baseball, women's basketball) and SMU (men's and women's golf) as they continue to compete for Tulane. Dickson and a central office staff are working in Dallas.

Tulane President Scott Cowen's directive to Tulane athletics teams to "Carry the Torch, Be the Face and Represent the Name" of Tulane University throughout the fall semester will be illustrated on every Green Wave uniform by a colorful patch and is the number one mission of all Tulane teams.

    Miners Headed To Ruston
Tulane Won't Travel To Sun Bowl

    http://www.ktsm.com/story_sports.sstg?c=208
    Tuesday, September 27, 2005 —

    By: Fred Albers

It was worth a shot but even Bob Stull could not convince Tulane to play in the Sun Bowl.

"It's about 90 per cent sure at this point the game will be played in Ruston," said the UTEP Athletic Director.

"I tried to sell them on making money and playing in a full stadium but they (Tulane Officials) just did not want to play before the Sun Bowl crowd."

UTEP was scheduled to play Tulane on October 14th in the New Orleans SuperDome but hurricane Katrina made that impossibile.

Since the hurricane the football team has spent time in Dallas and Ruston and would perfer playing games at a neutral site rather than opponents home stadiums.

ESPN is still planning on televising the October 14th game but additional lighting will be needed.

Tulane/UTEP to Play at Joe Aillet Stadium on ESPN
    Posted Sep 28, 2005 18:42:40

RUSTON -- Louisiana Tech University and Joe Aillet Stadium will host a nationally televised contest on Friday, Oct.14th at 7 p.m.

The interesting thing is the Bulldogs won't be participating in it.

Instead "The Joe" will be the site for a Conference USA tilt between Tulane and UTEP on ESPN, a game which had originally been scheduled for the Superdome in New Orleans.

Tulane will play its fourth football "home" game of the season at the site of the temporary home of the Green Wave football team in Ruston, La.

Ruston will be the fourth different Louisiana city to host a Green Wave home game this fall, following Shreveport (Sept. 17 versus Mississippi State), Baton Rouge (Oct. 1 versus Southeastern Louisiana) and Lafayette (Oct. 8 versus Houston).

"Louisiana Tech is proud to have Tulane University playing in our stadium and we look forward to the game," said Louisiana Tech President Dr. Dan Reneau.

Forced from its home city by Hurricane Katrina on August 28, Tulane Athletics has relocated to four cities in Texas and Louisiana for the fall semester, with Ruston and Louisiana Tech University serving as the home of the Green Wave football and women's track and field teams.

"Since we started this effort to keep our athletic teams playing this semester, [Louisiana Tech Athletic Director] Jim Oakes and [President] Dan Reneau have been there for us," said Rick Dickson, Tulane Athletic Director. "They offered the opportunity for our student-athletes to attend classes, live in the dorms and to continue this season from their campus. Now, they have stepped forward and have given our team the chance to play a game on-campus, saving our team the wear and tear of another weekend on the road."

For the game on Oct. 14, Louisiana Tech will allow Tulane to use Joe Aillet Stadium and the Green Wave program will receive all ticket proceeds. A limited number of $30 premium sideline seats will be sold, while the majority of the stadium will be sold for $10. Tickets will be sold via Ticketmaster at www.Ticketmaster.com, by calling 800-488-5252 or at Ticketmaster outlets in Louisiana and Mississippi. Tickets will go on sale next week.

Tulane football season ticket holders who have purchased their 2005 season tickets will be able to pick up tickets for the UTEP game in advance of the game at a site to be determined. All Tulane and Louisiana Tech students with a school ID will be admitted free.
