    Reflections

Loss of life, food, health, homes, jobs, schools, worksites, roads, bridges,.....

As I was driving home yesterday I remembered having a similar feeling on 9/11.

Several people I know from the area who are safe, but may have lost their homes, jobs, and schools.

    It's too much to comprehend.

The news reports seem to be focusing a lot of time on the looting. They refer to the "people" looting the local stores. These are not "people" doing the looting. Come up with your own description.

Reports of $25 billion in insurance claims. That does not include those who don't have coverage.

So many family disruptions in other areas of the state and reigion. Policemen, National Guard, Entergy empoyees, Construction workers, Relief workers......going to help and leaving their loved ones behind.

Paying another 15 cents for gasoline is only a minor thing now.

My problems seem so small now.

Definitely an extremely depressing situation. They say that Baton Rouge will have double its normal number of residents for a while. Who knows when life will be back to normal. I definitely have that heavy yuck that just won't go away and we're just living with very minor inconveniences here in BR.

As far as the looters go. Its scary to know that they'll be getting those thugs out and letting them loose on the rest of us north of New Orleans. I hope they bring in enough troops to catch 'em all and send them to a prison camp at Fort Polk!

I heard this morning that the devastation is greater than all four hurricanes from last year combined!!!!!

God Bless All Those people for what they are going through!

I am with you, Markay, about the looters! It is one thing to snatch some food to get by on, but tell what they plan to do with all the tennis shoes and electronics they have grabbed????? Bastards! Just when you are proud of how Louisiana is coping, this happens and you remember why you were always nervous walking the French Quarter by yourself at night.

It is amazing to hear the difference terms used for Looting from Mississippi, Alabama, and Louisiana officials. Personally I think they should throw them in a cage and hope the water does not rise anymore.

Tough day to say the least and the news is only going to get worse for NO. They are ignoring all dead bodies trying to rescue those alive.

We just need to pray for ALL the people involved! For strength, patience, and even for those looting to realize the wrongs they are commiting. Maybe some will find God through this. I really feel for NO police dept. They have way more than they can handle right now! God please bless them.

Guys, you all are focusing too much on this looting. Most of that sh*t is going to be ruined anyway. The idiots probably realized this morning that they have no where to go with their loot.

God bless them all, Even the looters.

It definitely creates a lawless attitude that will go with them wherever they are taken to as a refugee. Looting cannot be tolerated or we'll end up with these people all over our area expecting to do whatever they want - if they can get away with it there they'll figure they can elsewhere to. There IS a reason you don't tolerate. Lawlessness is NOT a good thing even in these circumstances.

I've seen two pictures of looters that stand out. The first is of a young lady who is chest deep in water dragging a loaf of bread to wherever she was trying to go. Another is of a huge man lugging a TV set out of a store.

One causes my eyes to tear. The other my face to rage.

I know that DD's sister is down there in a hospital with no electricity and not enough to eat and the thought that that man may decide he wants whatever is in that hospital scares me to death. That man is dangerous.

    Looting = lawlessness = anarchy

My dad was with Walker-Roemer dairies when Betsy hit in '65 - they were lucky, they were on the west bank...

They had National Guard escorts when they went to deliver milk to distribution points the days roght after the storm -

There was a titely enforced curfew and the Guardsmen were under strict orders - looting would not be tolerated and it wasn't - they could use deadly force if necessary -

Its one thing to carry off diapers and cokes and cookies - Nikes, TV's and DVD's is a whole different matter -

My wife is on the state EMS board and is the Homeland Security Director for Homer Memorial Hospital and has her HAM radio license - they got a short wave message out of children's hospital in NO this morning, they are trying to breakin and loot at the hospital for the DRUGS - they are trying to get troops in to protect them now as I type -

Looting SHOULD NOT be tolerated in any form

So I guess they should wait on the power to be restored, employees to return to work, and things to return to normal before they can buy some food? Yea, that makes sense.

I haven't read about anybody having a problem with getting food. There was/is a mandantory evacuation order. Some folks can't get out, but the folks on the news, for the most part, weren't trying to get out of town.

    Re: Reflections

Mississippi law has a defense provision for people taking food and necessities. All looters will be prosecuted but the people taking food can use that defense. Others will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law and face stiff fines and up to 15 years in prison. Burglary only carries a five year sentence.

I will say it again -

I can understand the food and provisions - don't condone it but I understand it -

The slot machine ravaging, the foot locker ravaging, the tv ravaging - should be dealt with SEVERLY - or when looters walk into a home and talk the computer and tv it makes the blood boil -

There was a MANDATORY evacuation - they were told to get out - just because they didn't doesn't give them the right to take what they want and cause problems like this -

    Re: Reflections

And I will say this -

Grew up down there till the 5th grade and still have family and friends down there -

When a hurricane comes there is a rush on the staples and non-perishables - store shelves are basically wiped WELL out before the storms hit -

There is basically few items left to loot for the most part as far as LIFE essentials go -

Maybe a few yohoos and cokes and cookies -

Looting, price gouging, etal should not be TOLERATED in times like this -
