Just my thoughts!
Just my thoughts!
Up to this point and during my 40 plus years of fandom, Bicknell's last year was the low point for Tech Athletics.
It's never been as bad as it is right now. We have totally failed to adapt to the new NCAA crap while our "peers" have made the needed adjustments. FWIW, our peers now include teams from the Southland. This is bad...
Have we ever fired a coach middle of the season?
Maybe Beightol who was 1-9 in his first year at Tech when he was canned. The last game that year was left to baseball coach Patterson to win, beating NLU 13-10. The biggest problem these days other than Crumbie essentially being under contract to be paid to lose and will continue to be for 2 more years is that there really aren’t any Tech Champions left to raise he’ll about him still being here and going about his greatly underachieving work to tear down Tech’s previously great football history. Just imagine coaches Aillet’s and Lambright’s reaction to what’s looking like 4 consecutive years of 3-9 records. When there’s no Tech blood left to carry the flag in tradition this is what we get. Yes I know, Reneau and Guice were supposed to be Tech guys but they were bureaucratic egg heads who didn’t understand sports or business.
Admin (Pres/AD) don't give two twits about Louisiana Tech. This is a job for them. They'll go somewhere else when they can't make it any longer in Ruston. There is no loyalty from these guys. They. Don't. Care. like we care. It's damn frustrating. We need a JRP again. We need some Tech blood behind the wheel. I am so over these "experiments". Hell, we once considered NLU/ULM to be below us. Now we're sucking the hind tit.
Jacksonville (5-3) beat Liberty (5-2) at Liberty and now comes to Tech (3-5) for Tech’s homecoming. 3-6 is looking pretty much guaranteed and on track for Crumbie’s 3rd consecutive 3-9 season.
I can't help but root hard for the Dawgs during the games. I fuss at the zebras when they miss calls against us, and my heart & soul is in it for the players, wanting them to be successful. But...there is an underlying reality in this too. I can't wish for it to happen, so I will phrase it this way: what will be the reaction of the alumni, donors, big supporters of Tech if on Homecoming, the football team gets smoked?
Jax State has a football coach, in Rich Rod, we have a "surfer dude" who would burn the patties working at a Burger King.
I don't think it is just "Tech blood" that we need. We need guys who are good at their jobs and care about the quality of their work. You think Alabama limits their search for Pres/AD/HC to graduates just to get Crimson Tide blood? No, they get guys who will be good for their business.
We...don't. In fact, sometimes we've intentionally done the opposite.
Tech’s football Facebook page is blowing up with calls for Crummy to be fired. Over 200 comments when I glanced at it earlier this morning. No supporters that I have seen.
Holtz had an overall great career at Tech except towards the end. His last few teams were hot garbage.
2020 was a Covid year, but Holtz couldn't fix his offensive line and his play calling was bad. Former DC Blake Baker left in 2018, and we had a good band-aid hire with Bob Diaco 2019. The next year Holtz hired his buddy David Blackwell (recently terminated by ODU) who tanked the defense. On the offensive side, the line was really bad. BYU just manhandled us with only rushing 3 guys. We went with the weird Luke Anthony/Aaron Allen QB rotation. At the end of the season, Bowl Game Holtz didn't show up against Georgia Southern in the New Orleans bowl. We got stomped 3-38 by a Sun Belt school. We ended the season ranked #117 Total Offense #81 Total Defense.
2021 Holtz went 3-9. He found Kendall Austin to try to fix our QB issue. Holtz also brought in coach Guge, who have been hopping around the NFL for most of the 2010s, to fix the oline. They were a little better at times but still a mess. Then there was the USM game. Both Tech and USM were the bottom of the CUSA West. USM had ran out of QBs and beat us with a RB in Frank Gore Jr. We ended the season #77 Total Offense #106 Total Defense.
At the end, no one showed up to the Joe to see Tech play. Even if we gave Holtz another year, I doubt he could turn it around. Congrats to him in the UFL. At 60, I don't think he will coach college ball again. He got a good gig and probably gets more time with his dad and golfing.
The JMar fiasco did it for me when Holtz allowed him to keep smoking weed knowing he could cost the team a conference championship. JMar was a pure turd and Holtz let him do whatever he wanted. I blame Holtz for that and another before when 3 or 4 key players flunked out prior to the championship game. Holtz got his bonuses and the fans got a low tier bowl game.
I don't disagree with you. It would be a plus, though, in my opinion for those that are good at their jobs and care about the quality of their work to have a Tech connection. I don't know why I care, because college football, as I knew it, is gone. I'm just tired of this S***show we've been watching since before Holtz left.
