Angry Wipe Israel from map, says Iran’s president

There they go again. Sounds like Iran, like Syria, continues to be a clear and present danger to me.

Wipe Israel from map, says Iran’s president

Mahmoud Ahmadi-Nejad, Iran’s fundamentalist president, on Wednesday declared that Israel should be “wiped off the map” and warned Arab countries against developing economic ties with Israel in response to its withdrawal from Gaza.
    //
His remarks, delivered at a conference in Tehran entitled “A World without Zionism”, led to diplomatic protests by the UK, France and Spain, while Shimon Peres, Israel’s deputy prime minister, said Iran should be expelled from the United Nations.
In Washington, spokesmen for the Bush administration said the statement underscored US concern over Iran’s nuclear weapons programme.

Mr Ahmadi-Nejad’s comments came as Islamic Jihad, a militant Palestinian group allied to Iran, killed at least five Israelis with a bombing in the Israeli town of Hedera. Islamic Jihad claimed responsibility, saying it was avenging Israel’s killing of a West Bank commander on Monday.
US analysts noted that the president’s remarks were not a departure from hardline Iranian rhetoric and did not represent new policy.

But they said the rhetoric was aggressive and badly timed, and would serve to confirm western suspicions of Iran’s more confrontational approach that were raised by the new president’s speeches at the United Nations last month.
However, European diplomats suggested the comments would not derail efforts by France, Germany and the UK to get Iran to return to the negotiating table and halt work at its Isfahan uranium conversion facility. One diplomat said the EU3 had made a point of keeping the nuclear issue separate from Iranian support for militant Palestinian groups during two years of talks.
“As the Imam said, Israel must be wiped off the map,” Mr Ahmadi-Nejad said, citing Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, the founder of Iran’s Islamic revolution.

The president told an audience of students there was “no doubt the new wave [of attacks] in Palestine will soon wipe off this disgraceful blot from the face of the Islamic world”.

“Anybody who recognises Israel will burn in the fire of the Islamic nation’s fury,” he said, in remarks aimed at Arab states.

Mr Ahmadi-Nejad, who took office in August, was departing from the moderate line of his reformist predecessor, Mohammad Khatami, who argued Iran should be no more radical about Israel than the Palestinians themselves. Reformist figures in Iran have recently warned that Mr Ahmadi-Nejad’s stern rhetoric endangers Iran’s national interest and could encourage the referral of Tehran’s nuclear programme to the UN Security Council. Iran denies its development of the nuclear fuel cycle is for military use.

It's impossible to wipe Israel off the map. The ink might smudge a little, but that's about it.

Good point. We would need some colors to make the map look right again, but that could be done.

We need to send these ideas to Iran. This is a MUCH better alternative that fighting. Who knew the solution could be this simple?

This is terrible and IRAN should be banned from the U.N.

I'm not as light hearted about these events as everyone else........ I will see you in the New Jerusalem Tyler.

You'll have to forgive me if I seem lighthearted about this, tylerdawg, but I have no fear whatsoever of Israel being wiped off the map. As I remember it, somewhere in the Bible, Israel is mentioned in the end times. To be here in the end times, Israel can't have been wiped off the map. In fact, if I'm not mistaken, I think the Bible also says that God will save Israel. That's in there isn't it? That doesn't mean that I'm not alarmed by Iran's actions because they could easily turn on anyone. However, I'm not concerned with their actions as far as Israel is concerned. And I doubt my lightheartedness will keep me from the New Jerusalem any more than your smug self righteousness will keep you from it.

    Dirtydawg,

I am sorry if I came off smug and self righteous. It WAS not my intent nor IS it my intent to imply anything about YOUR salvation. I can speak of mine and mine alone.....and should not have spoken of Tyler's...... that is my bad.

My intention however was to shed some light on the lightheartedness which was being taken on the subject.

Tyler's post was intended to shed some light on the biblical accounts of things that must happen during the end times.

Where in the Bible does it state that the nation of Isreal will be saved?

Give me a few days and I'll find it. Probably won't be until Saturday as I'm working then and shouldn't have anyone who will disturb my searching. Unless someone else posts it before then. I will take the blame for turning this thread into one of not so serious nature. That wasn't my intention, and I do apologize for that. I think Ray knows how I feel about the US support of Israel and those against it. I feel confident that even though my country may not take the side of Israel, the Lord will look into my heart and know the truth much as he did with Rahab.

The following selected verses from Zechariah speak of God's saving Israel in the "last days" of which you mentioned. However, they also include terrible things that will happen in the end days, caused by nations that rise up against her, in Jerusalem as well.

Zechariah 12 Read This Chapter12:1 The word of the Lord concerning Israel: Thus says the Lord, who stretched out the heavens and founded the earth and formed the human spirit within: 12:2 See, I am about to make Jerusalem a cup of reeling for all the surrounding peoples; it will be against Judah also in the siege against Jerusalem.
12:3 On that day I will make Jerusalem a heavy stone for all the peoples; all who lift it shall grievously hurt themselves. And all the nations of the earth shall come together against it.

12:4 On that day, says the Lord, I will strike every horse with panic, and its rider with madness. But on the house of Judah I will keep a watchful eye, when I strike every horse of the peoples with blindness.
12:5 Then the clans of Judah shall say to themselves, "The inhabitants of Jerusalem have strength through the Lord of hosts, their God." 12:6 On that day I will make the clans of Judah like a blazing pot on a pile of wood, like a flaming torch among sheaves; and they shall devour to the right and to the left all the surrounding peoples, while Jerusalem shall again be inhabited in its place, in Jerusalem. 12:7 And the Lord will give victory to the tents of Judah first, that the glory of the house of David and the glory of the inhabitants of Jerusalem may not be exalted over that of Judah. 12:8 On that day the Lord will shield the inhabitants of Jerusalem so that the feeblest among them on that day shall be like David, and the house of David shall be like God, like the angel of the Lord, at their head. 12:9 And on that day I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem. 12:10 And I will pour out a spirit of compassion and supplication on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that, when they look on the one F42 whom they have pierced, they shall mourn for him, as one mourns for an only child, and weep bitterly over him, as one weeps over a firstborn. 12:11 On that day the mourning in Jerusalem will be as great as the mourning for Hadad-rimmon in the plain of Megiddo

Zechariah 13 Read This Chapter13:1 On that day a fountain shall be opened for the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, to cleanse them from sin and impurity.

Zechariah 14:1-7 1 See, a day is coming for the Lord, when the plunder taken from you will be divided in your midst. 2 For I will gather all the nations against Jerusalem to battle, and the city shall be taken and the houses looted and the women raped; half the city shall go into exile, but the rest of the people shall not be cut off from the city. 3 Then the Lord will go forth and fight against those nations as when he fights on a day of battle. 4 On that day his feet shall stand on the Mount of Olives, which lies before Jerusalem on the east; and the Mount of Olives shall be split in two from east to west by a very wide valley; so that one half of the Mount shall withdraw northward, and the other half southward. 5 And you shall flee by the valley of the Lord's mountain, F45 for the valley between the mountains shall reach to Azal; F46 and you shall flee as you fled from the earthquake in the days of King Uzziah of Judah. Then the Lord my God will come, and all the holy ones with him. 6 On that day there shall not be F47 either cold or frost. F48 7 And there shall be continuous day (it is known to the Lord), not day and not night, for at evening time there shall be light.

    Ray,
This might make my point about how different Christians might interpret the Bible differently. I am not doubting your interpretation on this, but some might see it differently.
