They read a lot into it. The comments they got were what they were digging for. WTH do those comments have to do with the points of the editorial? Such a small time rag! VERY surprising that they didn't get on the "renew the rivalry" thing also.

No problem. Was hoping you wouldn't take offense by it. Should have dropped you a PM, but time was short. We haven't heard anything from the News Star, but they are Gannett owned just like The Times.

I will say that article read a whole lot like some of the posts on this board.

The only strange comment is the N_S editorial insight into Tech's football season.

There is no doubt in my mind that Tech would blow through the Sun Belt conference in football - granted we did not have the benefit of playing N Tex with their S Belt championship team, but we did beat a middle of the pack ULL team last year (and we did not need to bring our A game to do it), and this year we beat N Tex like a rented mule.

The N-S editorial could have noted that the bottom of the WAC this year were three teams in the S Belt last year, and most of the WAC teams that started in CUSA this year did fairly well - Tulsa being the CUSA champ.

And another point - For the most part this past football season, The N-S reads to me like a propaganda sheet for ULM football - so I guess you can't expect meaningful editorializing from these guys regarding Tech football.

One valid point brought up by the News Star was the low average attendance. They are right on as far as that goes. I suggest that they should begin today to promote the reality that North Louisiana is simply too poor and too sparsely populated to support 2 Division 1A football programs. There simply isn't enough money or enough fans to give respectable support to both ULM and Louisiana Tech.

ULM has very shallow fan support at best and clearly doesn't have the financial resources to become competitive. They have suffered through 12 consecutive dismal losing seasons since becoming a member of Division 1A.

This once proud fooball program has been reduced shambles. ULM's experiment in 1A has proven to be folly of the highest order. Their record speaks for itself.

It is now time for ULM to move back to Division 1AA in football. They would become a force in 1AA within 5 years, and possibly sooner.

Tech needs to get serious about funding the football program and moving quickly to close the massive gaps that exist between it and other WAC/C-USA football programs. Tech falls farther behind every day. If Tech can't, or won't make that commitment then Tech should join ULM in 1AA.
