Leon Barmore accepts Standing ovation from Baylor crowd

As many of you know, my daughter attends Baylor University and is a Dance line/Cheerleader for both basketball teams. As a result, my wife and I were in attendance last night when Oklahoma's Lady Sooners upset the Baylor Lady Bears 73-70 with two 3-point shots in the last 17 seconds in Waco.

But nothing surprised me as much as when I saw a familiar face escorted onto Baylor's basketball floor by Baylor's AD with a little more than 7 minutes remaining in the first half. It was non other than former Louisiana Tech Lady Techster head coach Leon Barmore.

Standing in the middle of the Baylor court, Barmore listened intently as a whole list of his Lady Techster coaching accomplishments were read over the loud speaker by the Baylor game day announcer. When the announcer was finished, the Baylor crowd of 9,703 gave Barmore a standing ovation. Even better, Kim Mulkey-Robertson came out of her team huddle early to give Barmore a big hug and a kiss. Afterwards, they posed for mug shots like kids at a fraternity party.

Anyway......I thought you guys might like to know about this. Clearly, if there ever was any bad blood between KMR and Leon, it sure doesn't exist anymore.

Re: Leon Barmore accepts Standing ovation from Baylor crowd

By the way.....for you guys that think there's no money and no excitement in women's basketball....ya'll are TOTALLY missing the boat. The OU-BU women's basketball game yesterday was much more exciting than the men's game earlier in the day between BU and #5 Texas.

The women were more physical (seriously), the crowd was larger (9.7K vs 8K)and the women scored more points (143 combined for the women vs 113 for the men) than the men. The women's game even had more starpower: OU's Courtney Paris (6-4) vs BU's Sophi Young (6-1).

For the record, Courtney Paris is the real deal. She is a huge presence in the middle for OU. She's as wide as she is tall. Courtney Paris finished with 23 points and 11 rebounds.....and she's only a freshman. She reminded me allot of former Lady Techster All American and Wade Trophy award winner Pam Kelly.

I knew you would like that part. I actually thought about your sick ass for just a moment when the final buzzer went off last night.

Thanks for the informatation, HD. Nice to hear that hatchets have been buried between the two (IF it was as bad as the media portrayed it in the first place).

I was there. HD was right in the middle of it. He gave KMR a piggy back ride to center court. He looks very buff! Still showed signs of a 4.4 forty.

He wanted to see a team like the ones he use to coach at LATECH (X&O's)....plus he and Mulkey have buried the hatchet.

Bring us the financial statement at the end of the year that shows how much the Lady Bears program made. With that kind of attendance, I'm sure they might finish in the black.
But I assure you they will make nowhere near the money Gonzaga's men's team will make. The women's tournament pays next to nothing.

For what it is worth, according to the following website:

    http://ope.ed.gov/athletics/index.asp ...
    which is:

"The OPE Equity in Athletics Disclosure Website is brought to you by the Office of Postsecondary Education of the U.S. Department of Education. It was authorized by Congress with the 1998 amendments to the Higher Education Act of 1965 (HEA) to help prospective students and their families research athletic opportunities on various college campuses. Under the HEA, the Secretary of Education is required to collect financial and statistical information on men's and women's intercollegiate sports and make it available to the public."

Baylor's women's basketball program had Revenues of: $2,152,211
    and Expenses of: $2,549,026

Baylor's men's basketball program had Revenues of: $1,686,394
    and Expenses of: $2,028,714

In comparison Gonzaga's men's basketball program had Revenues of : $2,519,527
    and Expenses of: $1,582,307
