Nothing wrong with an initial technical foul call in that situation. Once the refs realized what was happening was a legitimate health concern, the call should have been overturned. Poor judgment was exercised, and that doesn't speak well for that crew...the lead official should have done a better job.
I agree. If a coach is making a scene, T him up. But, if you realize that he is having heart failure, maybe you should think twice. They need to pull their heads out. I wonder what CUSA will do...
All I can say is "WOW"!
I couldn't believe that when i read it this morning. The NCAA needs to sanction the refs!
Well, this has to go right up there in the strange column. I can't believe they didn't take the T away. Geeeesh
I can remember when Leon could have given us a Technical with the Techsters.
I guess he was lucky he was behind the bench . I remember somebody sitting beside us saying "Where's Leon?" I think the game has gotten too fast and too physical for the referees. I think they need a stationary ref behind each net to eliminate some of the the phantom shooting fouls and to watch for 3 second violations. But this case is just an out right lack of common sense.
What? And let Penders get away with the old "fake-a-heart-attack-when-you-are-behind-to inspire-your-players" trick?Originally Posted by champion110
I had not seen the added "land-on-your-face" touch before though.
He is REALLY good at it, too. I bet that many coaches are going to practice this maneuver, if the refs get in trouble from CUSA.Originally Posted by killerdawg

Interesting article in USAToday about technical fouls.

Now that is a good piece. My mom coached basketball years ago. In fact, she started the girl's team at Broadmoor High in Baton Rouge in the late 70's/early 80's. She prided herself on the fact that she didn't get any technicals, until... It was her last season to coach there as my older sister was going to be attending the next year and she didn't want a conflict of interest. She had never had a technical called on her in her whole career. Before one game, the AD called the refs aside and somehow convinced them to find something to call a tech on her for as long as it wasn't going to affect the outcome of the game. Well, this is back when the coaches couldn't stand on the court without getting t'd up. Anyway, she was yelling something to a player and her foot was a little over the line and one of the refs saw and t'd her. She couldn't believe it. When she found out after the game that it was just as a joke, she was furious with her AD. It ruined her record of no t's plus she was really embarrassed. She still gets mad to this day when asked about it. I think I'm going to remind her this weekend.Originally Posted by HoDo-Tech70
