    Initial release of women's RPI was incorrect...used men's formula...Tech at 29

    http://web1.ncaa.org/app_data/weeklyrpi/Wrpi1.html

Here's the statement on collegerpi.com by Jerry Palm....
The initial release on Wednesday inadvertently used the men's weighted formula instead of unweighted one used by the women. That has been corrected and re-released, and now the differences between my rankings and the NCAA's are insignificant.

Tech is 31 on collegerpi.com after Thursday's game with a projected RPI of 45.

That makes it imparative for us to win the conference tourney. Maybe our only shot of getting in. How many automatic bids are there ?

That sounds about right. The other number was puzzling.

I'll disagree with that one. IF Tech wins out and loses the conference tourney, Tech will probably get in. IF Tech doesn't lose again until the tourney, you are looking at a definite top 20 ranking (probably no higher than 15 though). One loss to Fresno in the tourney will not not get us a bid, but it will definitely hurt our seeding...big time. Fresno I believe has to win the tourney to dance, and only have a slim chance to get an at large based on a mediocre RPI.

Winning everything guarantees a better seed. I would say the difference is between a 6 and a 13.

You, at least, have to have an rpi of under 50 to get in. It is rare for someone above that to get in and rare for a team below that to be ignored, although it has happened. The committee could care less what we are ranked. We have learned that the hard way with seedings.

Yeah, it always amazed me that even with all the respect WBB seems to have for Leon that we seemed to get awful seeding.

I agree, but again, my post was about seedings, not about getting in. IF we lost to Fresno is the tourney in the final game, and had gotten to 15th, and say it dropped us to 25th, it would be a travesty to NCAA basketball if a team ranked in the top 25 were not to get into the touney......juz sayin.:icon_wink

We have to win out first though!!!! GO TECHSTERS!!!

Gettin' it done tonight. Think we can get A-Ray to suit up with the men against Boise?

These WAC teams are going to have to learn to schedule better for rpi. They are killing us. The NCAA rpi will not be released again until Wednesday, but we are down to #42 rpi according to collegerpi.com after last night's win.

Here are the rpi's of the teams left on our scheudule:

    Nevada 218
    USU 306
    San Jose 159
    Boise 204
    NMSU 194
    Idaho 238
    Hawaii 106

Of course you have to win to have a good rpi, but some of it is pure scheduling. Fresno State is good enough to have a much higher rpi, but had very weak pre-conference scheduling. San Jose could have knocked off a few lower ACC and B12 teams, as well.

Hopefully, Fresno will have a little more confidence in itself for scheduling next year. Some teams like to schedule very weak teams in OOC. That helps them win and build confidence. It does nothing to help their chances of getting in the tournament, though. Hawaii, most years, has a huge advantage playing on the Island. They, usually, even schedule some good teams there. They are down this year, though.

Oh well....... I guess the only thing we can do is cheer for all our OOC opponents to WIN!

WKU, the two Mississippi's, Iowa, Texas SA, KState, Rice, Tennessee (GET BACK ON TRACK), Grambling, Ark. State, and Alcorn State. Those are the teams that need to be winning to help us. Should we send them a letter of encouragement?

Another thing that will hurt us with seeding is that we have no top 50 rpi wins. Iowa is at #59, so they are our best chance to make it in the top 50. AState is in the 70's and Mississippi is in the 80's. A few good wins from them will go a long way.

Here are today's projected RPIs for Tech's entire schedule with Tech's projected RPI at 41...better than the current RPI now that the first round of Nevada and Utah State are figured in.

    OOC
    Tennessee 1
    Western Kentucky 13
    Kansas State 30
    Iowa 59
    Arkansas State 69
    Ole Miss 97
    UT-San Antonio 99
    Rice 149
    Mississippi State 182
    Grambling 250
    Alcorn State 274

    WAC
    Hawai'i 81
    Fresno State 95
    San Jose State 133
    New Mexico State 203
    Boise State 216
    Nevada 231
    Idaho 234
    Utah State 308

I liked the fact that Tech played Grambling this year, but the date of the game...the day of the SWAC football championship...was very suspect. But it was bad OOC scheduling to throw two SWAC teams in. The rest of the OOC schedule is pretty much what might be expected except that Rice and Mississippi State are down significantly but UTSA may finish better than could have been hoped for.

The WAC situation has already pretty much been covered.

WKU at 13 is a big surprise. They might end up with a great seed, if they put together a win streak that carries them through now.

I hope WKU wins out, of course. But their RPI should take a hit with more Belt opponents left to play, even if they win, right?

It is similar to our situation. Even winning by 17 pts, on the road @ USU, hurt our RPI.

Yes, they will take a hit. They have lost some belt games too. That is why their rpi is so surprising at this point.

    Wrong...big time.

Western Kentucky is projected to win its last 6 SBC regular season games with 4 of them over teams now in the Top 100 RPI. The WKU schedule has home games against North Texas (93), UALR (124), Arkansas State (71), and MTSU (72), with road games at Denver (158) and FIU (73). Sweeping those six would cause the jump from 30 RPI now to the projected 13.

The SBC is 9th in overall RPI while the WAC is 14. CUSA is 13 BTW.

Until the women go to the weighted RPI like the men have, game sites are not factored into a team's RPI record counting for 25% of overall RPI.

    Reality,
If WKU were to end up as 13 in RPI, do you think the committee would hold true to form and give them a 4 seed? That would be remarkable.
