2 True Freshman pitch dogs to first win

Jerricho Jones and Luke burnett pitched well enough to give the dawgs a 5-3 win. Burnett closed the game with 3 or 4 scoreless innings and looked good. Both of these guys are true freshman and don't think the pressure wasn't on to not get swept at home by McNeese. A game or two too late but a win is a win. We need to run off about 6 if we can.

Heard the mri on alsup showed no tear or damage apparently tendinitis so hopefully he'll be back soon.

Good news. It is really good that 2 freshmen led the way. Hopefully, the right mix will be found to get this team going.

We could win the next 4. That would put us at 5-2. What do you do for tendenitis? Ice? We need Alsup to pitch well for us this year. Anyone else have any news on how he is, or when he is expected to return?

Nathan Bound looked good pitching yesterday too- he was clearly our best on the mound during that game. He pitched 2 of our 5 Ks and got very little support as we gave up 3 of our 5 errors while Bound was in.

Nathan deserves a serious look for a position in the starting rotation.

Definitely the only highlight of yesterday. Kersten had a good game at the plate but made a couple of errors in one inning.

boxscore is up at latechsports.com Jerricho jones goes 5 giving up 3 earned runs on 3 walks and 6 hits. Burnett pitched the final 4 scoreless innings giving up only a hit and a walk and striking out 4. Pretty impressive for their first appearances in a Tech uniform.

I talked with Alsup's dad at the game sunday. They don't know what he did to his arm, can't figure it out. He was throwing some at a short distance (15 feet or so I think his dad said) with no problem. That's all the info I got though.

Sunday's game was a lot better. I could tell when Luke walked out that he was nervous, but it didn't take long for him to settle down. I think that is the first time in a while that we have only used 2 pitchers in a game. I think we got some good freshmen. Does anyone know how fast Jones and Burnett were throwing???

Re: 2 True Freshman pitch dogs to first win

The KC Royals scout had them at mid to upper 80's which is excellent early in the season in this coooooool weather. The homeplate umpire would not call a strike at the knees in the last game,so the McNeese hitters were letting all the breaking pitches (at the knees ) go and sitting on fastballs.Jericho & Luke would have had a lot of K's if the umpire wasn't blind. That same umpire blew the call at third base when Hamilton went from 1st to 3rd on an outfield single by Ramon.DeAlejandro looked good in game 1 ( except for the double that cleared the bases and added 3 more earned runs to Lassere's total ) Lassere will be fine..Ramon is a 1-3 inning guy we could rely on.We hope Allsup will be back soon...his sidearm delivery is nasty and it's tough to pick up his release point by righthand batters.

    Dwayne,

You can't post that and not tell the story, elaborate on that for us to read.

I'll let Maddawg or TECH77 tell the story since I was the instigator and poor Cliff took much of the heat from said twirler -

Let's just say it involved the last SMU football game in Dallas, discussion about Freddie King's 8 year tenure at TECH and a certain twirler who happened to sitting in front of us (of whom we were unaware)....

    It was priceless....
