If they want to use the money.

I am somehow guessing ULM has done their homework and figured out how to apply this money. :bigcry:

We can use the money on facility improvements. So can ul-M and ul-L. You just can't use it for your overall budget. How ironic that when our coaches come up with extra money our admin. lowers their sports budget by the same amount yet they don't like it when they come up with extra money and the state wants to do the same thing back to them.
You are right though Casey , it is sad. :bigcry: :bigcry: :bigcry: :bigcry:
The bad things is that this should help us make Oakes and Reneau use the money for what it was intended, facilities. That is where we need the biggest improvement anyway!
why dont one of u students write a letter to the editor. mention what ulm and ull are doing with their student fees, mention what tech needs to be doing witht heirs (scoreboards, field turf, track stands, tennis courts), and ask why they are sitting on the money while they try to figure out how to use it for operating expenses.
Not to defend Oakes, but in an article from a while back, he said they intended to sit on the money for a while. I don't know if it is because they are trying to get it approved for overall ath. budget or if they are saving it for a big capital project.
Either way, JUST LET US KNOW WHAT THE HELL IT IS GOING TO BE USED FOR!!!!!!!!
No plan, no direction, no leadership. The Champs brochure still sits idly on my desk.
The way to rally the troups and continue their support is to at least show 1 significant improvement before next Fall and then one each year. You don't have to do them all at once in waiting for money to total to 4-6 projects. This exclude the fence money already raised prior to their "Plan". This needs to be something that was on the Plan like installing turf (we generally play well over half our away games on turf, not grass). Need it to practice on and be very familiar with. The lighting helps with television and WAC Video telecasts. New Scoreboards across campus is probably one large expansive improvement. Tennis courts would be in that and since students use them as well, part of the student athletic fee increase should go towards that. Then you have track surface and we need small stadium like structure, not a total bleacher structure, at track.
So I am hoping to see something other than the fence project completed prior to first game of football season. If not, I'm afraid JO is killing opportunity at momentum with supporters and funders.
DH, Oakes is not worried about funders, and supporters are not a priority. He's got his top 3 "funders" right in his hip pocket: Davison, Marbury, and Jarrell. You see, that was the way of doing business when he inherited the job and that's the way it remains today. It takes too much effort doing it any other way.Originally Posted by Designated Hitter

How can we capitalize on the fact that NLULM is making it work? Nothing motivates Tech admin. like NLULM getting ahead. We are still making excuses about why we can't use the money while other schools are doing the same thing. Maybe a Tech Talk article or letter??

I wrote a letter to the editor of the Tech Talk the last time this happened (when ULL announced their indoor practice facility which is being paid for by a student vote). All the admin. says is, you have a good point. Things are tough right now...yada yada yada. The TT gave my letter this title "Alumni Criticizes Facilities". I kind of felt like that was a bit negative. My letter was a call for accountability. As usual, it fell on deaf ears.Originally Posted by Dawgy Dog
