Can all of BB&B unite on this issue?

That all of congress should be replaced?

When congress unites together on their right to conduct illegal activities while in office, I think we have a problem. I mean both the judicial and executive branches checked off on this. Does this mean that congress thinks it is beyond the checks and balances of government? If so, replace them. I'm stunned.

I'm glad Vitter came out on the right side. I can't find any other statements from Louisiana congresspeople. In their defense, it looks like they are staying clear of it in preparation for hurricane season.

Yes, I could agree with that. I wish we could start from scratch with 90% of those that now hold office.

This is the system we've created. The only way to change politics is to hold the politicians accountable. This congress has done jack-squat. It reminds me of one of my favorite W. Churchill quotes...

"Democracy is the worst form of government in the world, except for all the other ones."
Time is your friend. Impulse is your enemy. -John Bogle

Re: Can all of BB&B unite on this issue?

Everybody do your buddy altadawg a favor and call your Congressman and tell him to vote NAY on this stupid law.Call all of them!!

If something like this gets passed, Im out of here. Seriously. I pay taxes on my winnings. They will get nothing and like it because I will be in Aruba or someplace else.

In the coming days, the House Judiciary Committee will vote on H.R. 4777, Internet Gambling Prohibition Act, sponsored by Congressman Bob Goodlatte (R-VA). This legislation turns private companies into the government’s “morality police.” It requires Internet service providers (ISPs) to remove gambling related hyperlinks and forces banks to monitor your purchases and transactions to ensure that you are not gambling online. The plan is an affront to civil liberties. If the committee passes the bill, your ability to enjoy poker online will be at serious risk.
Each member of the Poker Players Alliance has a critical voice in this debate. The members of the committee, listed below, need to know that Americans think this legislation is a bad idea.
For more information about H.R. 4777, go to the Poker Players Alliance Web site, www.pokerplayersalliance.org.
Please Call! Tell these Representatives to oppose the Goodlatte plan.

Best idea I've ever read on the Pawlitics board. I am sick of both the Republicans and Democrats. They are putting this country on the fast track to destruction.

Republicans are all about "small government" except when it comes to what you do in the privacy of your own home. Alta, I'll register your thoughts with my boss, though I can't see it making it before the Senate this year. It's too busy dealing with vitally important matters like the Marriage Protection Amendment and saving billionaires from the "death tax".

I hope you are right. Just received another email from my group, check it out. Please let me know what you hear.

Can someone explain to me how our government is okay with a multi billion dollar porn industry....., and now they are going to tell us we cant play partyfriggin poker or whatever else we want to do with our hard earned money. WOW.

Washington State Approves Online Poker Ban
New Law to Take Effect June 7
While most attention in the debate over online gambling has centered on Capitol Hill, the state of Washington has stepped to the forefront of the Internet gaming issue. Unbeknownst to many Americans, the Evergreen State adopted an outright ban of online poker, stiffening penalties for those who wager on hands over the Internet.
How did this happen without a huge controversy splashed over all the nation’s newspapers? Unfortunately, sponsors of the legislation moved their legislation quickly and quietly with few noticing it until Gov. Christine Gregoire signed it into law.
In January, Washington state Sen. Margarita Prentice introduced legislation “reaffirming and clarifying the prohibition against Internet and certain other interactive electronic or mechanical devises to engage in gambling.” Just a few weeks later, the bill was approved by the state Senate and moved into the Washington House where it was amended to increase the punishment for engaging in online wagering — up from a gross misdemeanor to a Class C felony. Such a level of a crime is punishable with up to 10 years in prison, the same amount of jail time reserved for sex offenders who fail to register with the state.
After gaining approval in the state House, the bill was on the fast track to the governor’s office. The new law will take effect on June 7. Overturning the law is possible — such a move would require “super majorities” of both state bodies — but it’s highly unlikely.
The Poker Players Alliance believes that Washington state politicians should NOT have the last laugh on this issue. Little debate took place on this legislation. The media didn’t publicize it. The public was unaware. As a result, politicians were free to cast their ballots without guidance from the views of their constituents.

I saw today that both Jindal and Landrieu have said that the FBI was correct and that congress is not above the law. Jindal went so far as to send a letter to the speaker to criticise his comments. I will be writing a letter to Jindal thanking him for his position.

Re: Can all of BB&B unite on this issue?

I think our two party system has finally come to an impasse. They are more concerned with the party line than getting anything effective done for our citizens. They have also managed to divide the American people so that nobody is willing to listen to any other viewpoints. We cannot survive like this.
I always hear how Congress is controlled by big business and special interests, but never really believed it until I saw what happened in the Senate with this immigration bill. I have never felt more betrayed by our government. We need a viable third party.
