    World Cup 2006

The World Cup is only one day away! There has been more advertising of the World Cup this year here in the states than any other World Cup in the past, but that may be because the ESPN networks are carrying all of the games live. Here's a schedule.

No kidding. I'd rather watch the NBA where a 7 foot 325 pound monster can take 5 steps without dribbling the ball on his way to slam dunk a goal and knock over a defender who's got position and never worry about an infraction being called. Or where some guy comes flying from the free throw line to slam back a rebound even though he has to do it while crashing into the back of the defenders who have the goal surrounded and not get called for a foul. Boy, that's a great game to watch.

I'm with you Benni. Can you tell me where I can find a printable bracket that I can fill out. I don't understand the hostility towards soccer. As a kid I grew up playin all the major sports, so I appreciate them all. And the world cup is the pinnacle of world wide competition...way more so to me than the olympics. I think its funny that people think soccer is for pussies, but at the professional level those guys are incredible athletes.

Try ESPN 360. I can't get it to work at my computer here at work so I'm just following it with gamecast.

Germany beat Costa Rica 4-2 in the opener without Michael Ballack.

3 goals were scored in first 17 minutes, 2 by Germany and 1 by Costa Rica.

    Exciting game!!

I thought Costa Rica was gonna come back when they got to 3-2.

    I doubt I'll watch Poland & Ecuador.

the germans are very impressive on the attack. klose is a beast around the goal. the scary part is they will be even stronger once ballack comes back. he's their captain and their leader.

however, i was very disappointed in klinsmann's strategy and the germans' exectution on defense. womchope is too good of a player to mark man-to-man and try to draw offsides. it burned them twice and should have burned them another time, but the ref called womchope offsides. germany must strengthen its back line if it wants to make another run towards the cup title.

Very true, you cannot play the offsides strategy against players with the kind of speed that Wanchope has. Ecuador has some quick players as well so it will be interesting to see what Deutschland does in their third game. Poland doesn't have near the speed up front as either Ecuador or Costa Rica but they are always a huge threat in the air, although so far today against Ecuador they have looked below average in all aspects of the game.
