UNREAL CONDITIONS
B. The speaker may be implying or explicitly stating that the
condition stated in the protasis will not be, is not, or was
not fulfilled. These category of conditions are sometimes
called the "unreal" conditions, and are further broken down
into the time to which the conditions are being applied.
1. When the protasis applies to a future event, these
conditions are called "future-less-vivid," "future
unreal" or "should-would" condition.
"If you should come (or were to come) tomorrow, then I would
be happy."
(The speaker doubts that you will come, but if you should,
then he would be happy.)
2. When an unreal condition pertains to a present
condition that is not being fulfilled, it is called the
"present contrary-to-fact" condition.
"If you were eight and a half feet tall, you would be a
great basketball player."
(But you are not eight feet tall, so you are not a great
basketball player. But if you were...)
Did you read what I had quoted? Sooner said *if* it's real, he's still not worried about it.Originally Posted by maddawg

That's like saying, "Even if there's proof that evolution is 100% correct, i still wont believe it"
Yes I did. I've just observed enough of Sooner's posts to know it's not that he doesn't care, it's that he refuses to worry about that kind of stuff.
I read some right wing pamphlet over the weekend. Inside was an article was written by some conservative woman who was telling about loading her two children and their friends into their SUV to make a drive for a vacation down to Florida. She told how she saw billboards for Topless bars while driving, horny goat weed for sale at the convience stores, porn magazines for sale that these children were walking by and having their innocence exposed to this trash. She went on to claim how this was the downfall of America. This was her biggest worry and Fear.
I pondered this for a few moments. Then it dawned on me. The Native Americans in this country used to get busy under the Buffalo hides with their children in the same Teepee watching/listening. Japanese, Chinese, and numerous other culture's families all sleep in the same room. I am sure all of those children have gotten an eyefull at one time or another. How many cultures have run around buck naked? Did these cultures collapse because of this? Why are we so consumed by sex, nudity, and fear it so? Yet, the really important issues of the day are all "make believe" sold by snake oil salesmen with an agenda to destroy economies?
Sooner, please don't worry or fear. There is nothing to really fear except your children being exposed to horny goat weed for sale at the Citgo on Tech drive. As for me, I went tuna fishing on the Gulf while tossing back a few Shiner beers Friday and Saturday. I then took my kids to Six Flags on Father's Day. I didn't worry about anything all weekend except for falling overboard while sharks were under the boat.

How's that working in Africa?Originally Posted by Dawgbitten

Oh wait, that's just an epidemic that's already here...
I wouldn't exactly call Sub-saharan Africa "civilized" society. So are you saying that families all living in one bedroom housing has contributed to this AIDS epidemic? That's a reach.
I am sure the policy of no condoms by many Christian Aid agencies doesn't quite help the situation in Africa.
I wanted to address something the other day regarding this statement:
Appearing before the Commons Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development last year, Carleton University paleoclimatologist Professor Tim Patterson testified, "There is no meaningful correlation between CO2 levels and Earth's temperature over this [geologic] time frame. In fact, when CO2 levels were over ten times higher than they are now, about 450 million years ago, the planet was in the depths of the absolute coldest period in the last half billion years." Patterson asked the committee, "On the basis of this evidence, how could anyone still believe that the recent relatively small increase in CO2 levels would be the major cause of the past century's modest warming?"
10 times higher, plus absolute coldest period in the last half billion years? Could that be explained by a supervolcano eruption? All models indicate that is exactly what happens when there is such an eruption. Atmosphere is saturated by volcanic dust blocking out the sun while CO2 levels can soar.
All I'm saying that Africa is all about the boot-knockin and it has gotten them in one hell of a bad situation. And where SOME Christian aid organizations do not distribute condoms, the WHO and others make up for it.Originally Posted by Dawgbitten
So a single room occupied family who runs around mostly nude contributes to all of this boot knocking?

If my understanding I got from glancing at your post is correct, then it appears you are trying to blur the line between nudity and pornography. There is definitely different definitions of nudity, and we can debate that. I don't want women's breasts exposed on a regular basis, because I like for them to remain special. If it was allowed, men would get a little "tingle" for a small time and it probably would become ho hum. What a shame.
On the other hand, I don't want my children, or even my wife, involuntarily exposed to pornography. That crap is disgusting to me. I know others may disagree, and whatever floats their boat is alright with me. Just don't make me and my family see that crap by allowing it to be seen involuntarily.
I think we are talking about a promiscuity problem here. In some families, they do have sex in front of their kids. I dont know the specifics, but I imagine it isnt exactly like porno love making that Americans think of, but regardless. They probably teach their kids about sex and how it is about love, etc. In America, sex is a hobby and extracurricular activity. You can have sex with many partners and not give a crap about any of them, and we will all be fine and dandy. Porns/Shows/Media add to this belief. I think that is why it bothers many people more than anything. It is not the most feared thing by any stretch of the imagination, IMO, but it is something that offends many people, especially since it can put ideas in a child's head.
Oh. He thinks its alright to have sex in front of your children because native Americans did that? That is disgusting. Like the animals.Originally Posted by dhussdawg
I guess you all miss my point. It seems all some want to do is worry about insignificant crap while the significant issues are sold as irrelevant to those who want to believe.
No, I don't want my children exposed to smut either, but it certainly doesn't top my agenda as something that is going to lead to the collapse of our civilization.
