First and foremost . . . WELCOME BACK!!!
I know many of you were going through withdrawal symptoms and we'll be trying to find you some good counselors to help you get through these troubled times.
Second, let me explain what happened, or what didn't happen. As all of you are probably aware, we have were experiencing some problems at latechbbb.com. Let me put some of the rumors to rest.
1. We did NOT experience a hack from a certain Turkish punk
2. Jim Oakes did NOT find the location of our server and pour Katrina storm water over the top of the servers
3. We have NOT been implicated in a certain student organization's non-profit IRS investigation and been forced to terminate our web site.
4. Michigan State wanna be's did NOT cause our server to overheat and burn the place to the ground.
5. We have not been hit by either Israeli nor Hezbollah rockets gone astray from the middle east.
6. This is in no way connected to the forum upgrade that was done and completed on Friday morning.
What HAS happened:
Our server rebooted as it does from time to time due to a configuration issue we are trying to fix. When it did, the reboot did not complete and it is sitting there waiting for someone to unplug it, plug it back in, and boot it up. John is away on vacation on a cruise and he has been unable to reach his backup to reboot the server.
So that's the story.
Now, there are few things you need to be prepared for as part of your emergency preparedness plan in the future.
1. Bookmark a couple of sites:
http://forums.delphiforums.com/dawgbytes/messages This is our old site from prior to 2001 and when things go bad, we normally let people know what is going on there
http://www.dawgtalk.net This is a brand new site that I am running that went online today. I'll tell more about it later, but register and use it for backup as well.
2. Get the e-mail address of other members so you can contact them in the case something happens and we need to spread the word again.
3. Bookmark The Shreveport Times and The News Star so you can actually see what is going on!
Again, we apoligize for the inconvenience and this was a freak occurance that we do not expect to occur again in the future. But if it does, BE PREPARED to find a backup site!
