We always get the late game day one. Thanks Judy.
Selective Memory?
It's our own damn fault for being 4-seed. Looking at previous seasons and where we played our 1st game:
The host usually plays game 3.
2024 (Host & 1-seed) Game 3
2023 (@ Rice - 6-seed) Game 1 --- 1 DBU/ 8 Rice played game 3
2022 (@ USM - 2-seed) Game 2 - 1 USM/8 UAB game 3 >>>> Game started late due to weather
2021 (Host & - 2-seed) Game 3
Personally, I am thrilled we have the late game Wednesday. I have a business meeting in Vidalia that day and I should make it back in time to catch the first pitch.
Go Dawgs!
If our opponents throw their best available lefties against us we’ll be in trouble. Tech can’t succeed with 4-5 hits a game unless the other team offers a lot of free bases help. It hasn’t seemed to matter how good our starting pitching has been when we don’t score in the first half of the game. Having Mexico lead off with no one on base after Drost and Safford get out 3 times each a game is not an efficient strategy. Burroughs is counting on some miracle run here in the next few days but it’s going to be very tough with how he handicaps the team. It’s the time in the season when he’s worn out some players, Birch catching being the main one. It looks like his arm is exhausted. Good luck Dawgs, it’s on you to outdo your coaches.
Mexico is our best hitter and as such should be batting 3rd in the lineup. Put him behind a couple of hitters who can get on with a hit or walk...at least a good portion of the time. Who might that be, Coates? Ruddell? Berkely? Have Hawsey batting cleanup and Ballard 5th. Of those first three, the odd man out should bat 6th, then we get into the bottom 1/3 of the order...Eli Berch, Drost, Safford.
Haven't seen much of anyone else play, except Comeaux who is in the doghouse, so I don't know who to insert into the lineup other than the "regular 9" starters.
I would switch Crider to the closer and Hooks to be set up as Crider has been more consistent recently.
Just my not-so-humble opinion! As someone, probably sparky, will point out I am not a "professional" baseball coach so, what do I know?
No matter who plays, I say, Go Dawgs!
The only argument I would make is that since he is our best "pure hitter" I want him at the top of the order to get to the plate as many times possible in a game - much like they did with Taylor Young - the hamstring injury he suffered at Wichita State and played with the remained of the season limited his mobility and the running part of his game but he still was able to deliver a very good RBI number for the leadoff spot - ideally you would bat him 3rd to protect Hawsey - but alas we have very few HIGH percentage guys
I totally agree with you on Crider - use him as closer, Hooks' arm motion is so wild - that if he is the least bit out of the slot, he tends to struggle finding the plate

I haven’t heard anything about any player suspensions following the end of the NMS series. There was some talk after the game that the conference would probably review video to identify players who acted inappropriately somehow. Hopefully there won’t be a big surprise announcement at the last minute before the tournament gets started. The last thing Tech needs is a shorter roster of capable players.
Rudell was suspended for one game only

RPI for our bracket:
DBU 19
Jax State 73
Liberty 85
Tech 102
Doesn't look very promising. I'll be happy if we avoid 0-2.
RPI means nothing at this point other than how weak our schedule was...but we did get 30 wins, like that means something.
We are a better team than both Liberty and Jax State, but I'm not sure our HC can manage our limited pitching well enough to win.
Game one is a MUST win. Lose it and we can get on the bus.
Who gets the start today, Logan Forsythe? Whoever it is needs an A+ performance, like pitching a shutout into the 7th inning...yep, that's all. Then our pen Crider/Hooks need to finish the job. I simply don't believe Tech, Jax State, or Liberty can beat DBU twice. Baseball is a funny sport, strange things can happen, but those can happen FOR the good teams too, like DBU. Actually, DBU is gonna have to help beat themselves, but not playing their best baseball. A few huge gaffes would help too.
But, it's gameday, so channeling my best Champ110 optimism, I think we can win this thing.
Go Dawgs!
