You know, that is a horrible misdirection. Taxes are a source of revenue. No taxes means no revenue. You can borrow for the difference, but that is the stupidity of our government, not the rich.

My view is to extend neither. Plenty of shopping baskets at the local supermarket for the long-term unemployed and the rich will still have trillions of $$$$ for their mansions and yachts and jets.

The problem is that about 50% of Americans will never pay federal taxes, if the current trend continues. Yeah, I know.....FICA, medicare, state taxes, are all payroll taxes, but the class warfare game is being played out on the national level. Thus, you will never have responsible government until EVERYONE has skin in the game, including the "working poor". Tax everyone equally, and everyone will start demanding the money be spent responsibly.

The tax code is being used against us to divide the country. A country divided cannot stand. Distributing the wealth of the rich to the poor in the form of "tax refunds" creates a socialistic vision of fairness that doesn't bode well for our future.

It was a compromise. Basically, the Democrats got their spending, but they had to agree not to raise taxes to pay for it (). The Republican agenda starting in 2011 is to start rolling back the Democrats' spending programs. I don't think they will be able to cut enough to save the country though.

Basically, what happened is the redistribution of wealth got stuck.... they gave billions to the poor (since 2008), but then the Republicans blocked the taking from the rich part. Meanwhile... deficit grows another $ Trillion.... up to $14 Trillion now.

Really, the class warfare talk is for the birds. America will not prosper if the rich own everything. Today, the top 1% own 40% of America's wealth, the same percentage that was reached when the Great Depression occurred.

The reason why the government is inefficient is because special interests control government. The special interest finance both political parties and well as the mass media. 50% of American don't vote. The republicons want tax cuts for the rich because the rich have paid them to do their bidding. Nothing complex about it. If tax cuts for the rich are so great economically why the massive deficits and 10% unemployment since they have had a tax cut for 10 years?

In other words, you will never have a responsible government has long as the government has been bought and paid for.
