obummer's war on women continues
I wish they would report more than a median salary. Mean and median together would give a little more information. I guess women making 85% of men's salaries is better than the Bush WH where women made only 78%, but neither is acceptable. Bush did it by putting more men in powerful positions that traditionally pay more--legal. but maybe a little fishy. I would like to know more about Obama's brand of discrimination such as are women being paid less for same/similar work?
There is NO doubt, that generally speaking, women are paid less than men. Of course, there are some exceptions, but really those exceptions prove the rule. And! it's not always a case where some man is making the decision, nope. I know of incidents where it was a woman manager who decided to pay a little lower for a position being vacated by a man, and filled by a woman. Happens a lot.
Most jobs have a salary range, such as you might see a management position advertised as Salary: $65,000 - $79,000, "depending on experience." And this is usually why/how many women end up making less than their male counterpoints. It is NOT fair. (but, who said life is fair?)
I think, most positions can have a salary set, period, no range. Such as the above example might be set at $72,000. That's it, as the applicant, take it or leave it, and as the employer, either a person is qualified to perform in that position, or they are not. Shouldn't matter what sex the applicants are. (note use of proper term "sex" and not "gender")
Now, I fully understand the theory behind the salary range, and in a free market, ALL employers should be able to exercise some latitude in hiring. I'm a manager and have experienced this many, many, many times. Sometimes you can't get that great candidate unless you can sweeten the pot (more money). That's because as a great candidate, they are in demand and have other options. Certainly, a different standard can be applied for private sector jobs vs. gov-mint jobs. Teachers are paid on a pay schedule that depends on years of experience and some other credentials, such as a master's degree vs. a bachelor's. Doesn't matter if you're a male or female.
In the WH(and in most gov-mint institutions), each position should be assigned a salary, not a range, and whoever holds that position gets that salary, regardless of sex. Period.
There's a war on women now and it was started by the DEMS as usual.

Democratic strategist and CNN contributor Hilary Rosen “Guess what, (Romney’s) wife has actually never worked a day in her life," said Rosen, who has twins with ex-partner Elizabeth Birch.
Some one today mentioned the backlash over Palin pursuing her career instead of focusing on her family. Now the lefties prove they don't like it they other way either.
It's because they are trying to play it as both - that women should be able to handle a career and focus on the family at the same time. Which, is kind of funny considering they (dems) have for so long wanted women to focus on nothing but careers and found motherhood to be beneath them.
