Just wait a few more years.......
    Um, no he's not...

Actual death total is 4,209 in Iraq. And a little less than half died from NON-COMBAT... a fact little mentioned in the news (if ever).

Even you should know, that illiterate people do what they are told, especially when told forcefully. (that is the general population of Iraq)

A few more years, US would be out of here.... what happens then, is anybodies guess and speculation...

No duh, there was no way he was ever going to pull out like he said he was. The Dem's only want defeat of the American military if the Reps. are in charge. Once they have they reigns they are going to do everything they can to win, and the press will spin it as a victory instead of the quagmire it has been portrayed to be.

especially after his NS brief... his administration would have collapsed otherwise.

wishful thinking of the dems... they have routinely short-changed the military, and diplomats, no matter what war...

Iraq declares victory as U.S. troops leave cities

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20090620/...usa_security_1

BAGHDAD (Reuters) – Iraq's leader declared victory Saturday as the country began to end a foreign occupation with the withdrawal of U.S. combat troops from cities, and told Iraqis not to lose faith if the pullback resulted in attacks.

As part of a security pact signed between Baghdad and Washington last year, U.S. combat forces must leave urban centers by June 30 and the entire force that invaded Iraq in 2003 must be gone by 2012.

"It is a great victory for Iraqis that we are taking the first step toward ending the foreign presence in Iraq," Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki told a conference of leaders from the ethnic Turkmen community.

"I, and you, are sure that many don't want us to succeed and celebrate this victory. They are getting themselves ready to move in the dark to destabilize the situation, but we will be ready for them, God willing."

    Iraqi democracy in action:

Wonder what happened to all those folks that bush brought over here to wave their purple thumbs during the televised joint session of congress ?? Did they ever go back "home", or are they still here (on welfare ??) ??.

"Twin car bombings in central Baghdad killed at least 136 people today in what looks like the start to a blood-drenched election campaign.
The attacks - the deadliest in two years - occurred along a road thronged with traffic and destroyed three government buildings, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Public Works and the Baghdad governor's office, where ten members of parliament were attending a meeting.
The bombs exploded within two minutes of each other at around 10:30 in the morning, First came a smaller bomb outside the Baghdad governorate, driving pedestrians north along Haifa street towards a ministerial complex 500 metres away, where the second and larger bomb went off.
Hospitals overflowed with more than 600 wounded and columns of brown smoke hung over the city for hours. Haifa Street, which runs north from the fortified Green Zone, was flooded several feet deep with water from burst mains. The water turned red in places with the blood of the dead and injured. "

    Re: Iraq is slipping fast

Iraq was well on its way to becoming a free, peaceful nation, one where little bluebirds would sit side by side with hungry hawks and they'd all sing beautifully together. It was to join the elite group of free nations of liberty where the people could raise their families, play soccer, and go about their lives in a merry and care-free way....

Alas, then came January 21, 2009 and some tweeds took charge. It's Katie-bar-the-door now. Sorry, Iraqis, all bets are off.

BTW, last week, in a desperate act, the hawks ate the little bluebirds. The hawks issued a statement:

    "Don't blame us, it's George Bush's fault."

U.S. officials fear that rebuilding efforts in Iraq may go to waste

12:00 AM CST on Saturday, November 21, 2009

Timothy Williams, The New York Times

BAGHDAD – In its largest reconstruction effort since the Marshall Plan, the U.S. government has spent $53 billion for relief and reconstruction in Iraq since the 2003 invasion, building hospitals, water treatment plants, electricity substations, schools and bridges.
But there are growing concerns among U.S. officials that Iraq will not be able to adequately maintain the facilities once the Americans have left, potentially wasting hundreds of millions of dollars and jeopardizing Iraq's ability to provide basic services to its people.
The projects run the gamut – from a $270 million water treatment plant in Nasiriya, which works at a fraction of its capacity because it is too sophisticated for Iraqi workers to operate, to a large hospital that closed immediately after it was handed over to Iraq because the government was unable to supply it with equipment, a medical staff or electricity.
In hundreds of cases during the past two years, the Iraqi government has refused or delayed the transfer of U.S.-built projects because it cannot staff or maintain them, Iraqi and U.S. government officials say.
Other facilities, including hospitals, schools and prisons built with U.S. funds, have remained empty long after they were completed because there were not enough Iraqis trained to operate them.
Stuart Bowen Jr., inspector general for Iraq reconstruction, said his agency had "regularly raised concerns about the potential waste of U.S. taxpayer money resulting from reconstruction projects that were poorly planned, badly transferred, or insufficiently sustained by the Iraqi government."
The blame is shared, officials said. While Iraq has often been guilty of poor management, U.S. authorities have repeatedly failed to ask Iraqis what sort of projects they needed and have not followed up with adequate training.
Despite the $53 billion spent by the United States, many Iraqis have criticized the rebuilding effort as wasteful. Ali Ghalib Baban, Iraq's minister of planning, said it had had no discernable impact.
"Maybe they spent it," he said, "but Iraq doesn't feel it."
Despite the billions in U.S. spending, more than 40 percent of Iraqis still lack access to clean water, according to the Iraqi government.
Ninety percent of Iraq's 180 hospitals do not have basic medical and surgical supplies, according to the aid organization Oxfam. Exacerbating the problem, Iraqi and U.S. officials say, is that hundreds of thousands of people from Iraq's professional class have fled or been killed during the war, leaving behind a population with too few doctors, nurses, engineers and others.
