Importance of Saturdays Game

You obviously haven't seen what the lineup of bowl-eligible teams could very easily look like to make that statement. I'm not about to bet the farm...or much of anything for that matter...that Tech can finish at least 7-6. But if it happens.....

Using this week's Sagarin Predictor ratings to project all remaining games this is what we might get...Tech is predicted to finish 2-11 for what it's worth...

58 teams are projected to have winning records...among those are 7 MAC teams.
13 more teams are projected to finish 6-6.

The 64 bowl teams would likely include 56 of the winning record teams and 8 of the 6-6 teams due to conference bowl contracts. The possible breakdown by conference....

ACC 8
Big Ten 7
Big 12 7
Big East 5
Pac 10 5
SEC 9

CUSA 5
MAC 5 (2 bowl-eligible teams stay home)
MWC 4
Sun Belt 3
WAC 4
Independent 2

Another thing to consider if we finish 6-7...a 6-6 WAC team fills one of the WAC bowl spots. Remember the 13th game? But we got $750K for that 13th game and netted much more than we would have by playing a bowl game. Oh well. On to WBB!

Back to the title of this thread...a Tech win today would drop San Jose State's projected record to 6-6. A 7-6 Tech team would have to be placed somewhere before a 6-6 San Jose State could be considered at all.

With the mess the ACC race is becoming, it's more and more likely that a 12-0 Boise State would finish ahead of the ACC champion in the BCS standings. At #15 the Broncos are already in an automatic BCS qualification spot if that happens. That would automatically mean 4 WAC bowl teams...if Tech managed to get one of the 4 winning WAC records, the bowl bid would be automatic...not even Karl Benson could screw that up.

Even that may not stop the WAC from getting 4 bowl bids if it has 4 teams with winning records. If Boise State can't be placed outside the WAC bowls or the #5 MAC team or the #3 Sun Belt team can be shopped for a bowl bid over the #4 WAC team, then Karl Benson shouldn't let the door hit him on the way out.

I think bowling is a very real possibility...if we accomplish the near impossible task of winning the rest of our games. i'd put the likely hood in fractions...it's a tough thing to do. 7-6 will not put us in a bowl. But, it will put ole JL in a pretty good mood.

A 3 win season does not get you in a bowl!

We stink, good thing the Warthawgs are not on the schedule cause we would lose to them!

Slow down ... with Boise sitting pretty for a BCS spot, there should be an extra bowl tie-in available for a WAC team. Hawaii will get to play at home, but NewMex & MPC are still up for grabs. Of course, only the top 2 teams are guaranteed a bowl (and those could very well end up being Boise & Hawaii.) However ...

Idaho is set to lose 3 of their last 4 (Haw, Nev, Fres, SJS), making them ineligible.
SJSU has yet to play BSU, FSU or UH. A loss to Tech in addition to these would put them at 6-6.
A loss to Tech would make Fresneck ineligible.
A Tech win would knock out NMSU (if they're not already out by then). USU is already out now.

If the Dawgs (and Broncos) take care of business, Tech is in by default, even with a loss on the islands. Here are Champ967's bowl projections, provided our esteemed coach doesnt find a way to muck it up ...

Boise St - BCS
Hawaii - Hawaii
Nevada - New Mexico Bowl
Tech - Smurf Turf

This thread is even more poignant. This was the last game with any real meaning. Win it, and extend our hopes a few more weeks. Lose it, and the season no longer has any meaning. We are now 0-2 in must-win games (Idaho at home and SJSU on the road).

Only a few more weeks until basketball season. Then we can start the fire KR threads back up. I love Tech. Always something interesting going on.

Please... are you talking about the WAC All stars VS Boise?? That's about the only way that they lose this season.
