Final - WM 21, RHS 10. Great game. WM couldn't hold on to the ball in the first half. Second half the fumbles started again and the WM coaches made all the backs either take off the under armor long sleeve shirts or cut off the sleeves. Ruston capitalized on WM's mistakes and took the lead 10-7 but about midway in the third qrtr WM came to life and totally dominated. Ruston has a fine looking team. They just have to find a way to deal with WM.

It was a great game. Ruston played great by forcing the turnovers and taking advantage of WMs slow defensive backs. Laird played aggressive football because he knows the WM is apt to give up the big play. IMO the big difference maker was that Ruston just couldn't handle the WM offensive line in the last quarter. I really felt bad for Haddox. He left EVERYTHING out on the field. I still say he can play 1A football somewhere. What he lacks in size, he makes up for in heart.

Last night was Ruston's chance to beat WM, just couldn't make enough plays offensively, Alsup was a little rusty, then WM's offensive line wore down Ruston's D in the fourth quarter.

WM has very nice facilities but the "Jumbotron"? is a joke, it looks like it should be in someone's living room. You couldn't see anything on the replays. Hopefully Tech's will be much bigger.

if the team's meet up in the playoffs, it could be interesting. the game, unless it's the finals, will be played in ruston, and alsup should be less rusty as ruston gets deeper in the playoffs. the 'cats can't expect wm to make the mistakes it did the first time around, but ruston can play with the rebels.

Explain why the game would be in Ruston. Ex: If Ruston were to win a quarter final game at home and WM won on the road, the game would be in WM assuming they are on the same side of the bracket. Right?

That's correct, but it doesn't matter now. The only place a rematch could possibly happen is at the 'Dome. WM is #4 and Ruston #15, so they are on opposite sides of the bracket.

like reality check said, it doesn't matter now that they are on opposite sides of the bracket. however, any time there is a rematch in the playoffs, the visiting team during the regular season is the home team. theoretically, the #1 team in the playoffs could travel in the 1st round if they had hosted the #32 team during the regular season.

personally, i hate the current system. if we are going to use the power rating system, use it as a true seeding system. the higher seeds plays at home no matter what. there is no reason the #1 team should have to travel in the 2nd round if the #17 team "upsets" the #16 team. that's just stupid. reward the better teams by giving them home games.

Wow! What a screwed up rule. I had never heard that before. Thanks for the info. Need to lobby K.H. to get this one changed.

The rule doesn't need to be changed because regular season meetings have never been considered in determining playoff home teams.

Paraphrased from the LHSAA By-laws pages B-169 and B-170:

    Bi-district round
    1) The higher seeded team shall be the home team.
    2) If the 1st place team draws a "bye" in the bi-district round, its regional game shall be a home game.
    3) "Byes" shall count as home games.

    Regional round
    1) 1st place teams that drew a "bye" in the bi-district round shall be home teams.
    2) Teams that traveled in the bi-district round shall be the home team unless 1) applies.
    3) If both teams traveled or both were home teams in the bi-district round, the higher seeded team shall be the home team.

    Quarterfinals
    1) The team that traveled more times in the first two rounds shall be the home team.
    2) If both teams traveled the same number of times in the first two rounds, the team that traveled last shall be the home team.
    3) If teams travelled the same number of times in the first two rounds and both teams traveled or both were home teams in the regionals, the higher seeded team shall be the home team.

    Semifinals
    1) The team that traveled more times in the first three rounds shall be the home team.
    2) If both teams traveled the same number of times in the first three rounds, the team that traveled last shall be the home team.
    3) If teams travelled the same number of times in the first three rounds and both teams traveled or both were home teams in the quarterfinals, the higher seeded team shall be the home team.

These basic playoff travel rules have been in effect for at least the last 30 years except for the change when seeding by power ratings started. Before that it was odd year-even year to determine whether the team on top or bottom of the bracket hosted in the tiebreaker scenarios.

i swear i'm not making this up. i can't find the rule online anywhere, but when 2 teams meet in the playoffs that already met during the regular season, the visiting team during the season hosts the playoff game. it's happened several times since we went to the new power rating system.
