Nope Quarterflash opened for Rick Springfield. Golden Earring opened for 38 Special in the fall of 83. I was fortunate to have an sister that was 8 years older that convinced my parents it was ok for me to go to concerts. I started going about 1977 at the age of 11, I saw some of the best acts of the era either at the Hirsch or at Memoral, and do you remember the Texas Jam? We got some pretty good shows in the old gym at Tech back then too. Saw Jimmy Buffett there.

Saw these two acts at the TAC in May of '85.

The only song that came to my mind in my '80s flashback is one of like 3 country songs I've ever liked: New Grass Revival's "Callin' Baton Rouge." I can't find the original, but here is a newer one. It's funny, too, because they are trying to teach their Czech audience to do the cajun "ayeee" call.

(And I apologize in advance for posting country music. But this song was a very important part of my '80s experience.)
