Our prayers go out to his family and friends....so tragic.
Another reason I want to be a cop, put dumbasses that drink and drive behind bars. Unfortunately the most common way you catch them is in a situation like this-after they've already done their damage.
I call in a drunk driver about once a month. Most police departments will be VERY responsive if you give them a call about a suspicious driver. It's great if you can give them a detailed description as well as a license plate.
From your cell phone you can dial *577 (LSP) and if they don't have anyone close, they will transfer your call to the closest Police or Sherriff's office.
Thoughts and prayers.
What a waste of a great person - to all PLEASE do not drink and drive. It does not take much effort to call a cab or a friend to drive you. Let's all not let Jeff's death go unnoticed.
Damn, I hate to hear that! So sad.
Go Tech!
He was hit on the Interstate none the less, with the drunk driver driving the wrong way on the interstate, head on. Wow, how intoxicated do you have to be for this to happen. This is truly sad.
i played with jeff at tech, and besides being one of the best hitters i ever played with (i don't think his BA dipped below .350 our entire senior season), he was a hard worker and a competitor. he was a guy who was never satisfied. he could be 3 for 3, but if he grounded out in his fourth at-bat, you would think he was 0 for his last 20. he felt like he should never make an out, which is why he had success. he was a guy that everyone on the team liked. besides braggin on tech baseball in his last conversation with his dad, jeff told him that he planned to stop by jc love and visit the coaches and some of the players he played with on his way back to memphis (where he was working). this really hits hard. the world lost a great guy.
i was wrong about where the wreck occured. apparently he was already back in memphis. here is the obituary for anyone who is interested...
Our beloved son, JEFFREY PAUL WALKER, 25, died a hero in Memphis, TN., on February 4, 2007. His death was due to a drunk driver driving down the wrong way of the freeway. Jeff's evasive attempt caused the driver's vehicle to only hit Jeff's side of the car, thus miraculously saving his girlfriend's life. His father and I ask everyone who reads this obituary to please say a prayer for our beloved son, Jeffrey Paul Walker. Jeff was born in Houston, TX on November 18, 1981. His passions in life were family, friends, and baseball. He played baseball at Louisiana Tech earning him all conference honors. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing. Jeff joined Parker Hannifin Corp. in July 2006 as a Hydraulic Application Engineer and was a member of the Fluid Power Society. Jeff was preceded in death by his beloved grandmother, Kathleen N. Walker. He is survived by his proud parents, Paul and Marianne Walker; proud brothers, Brad and Steven; proud grandparents, Art and Betty Minier, and Robert P.Walker; proud Aunts and Uncles, Joe and Cherie Correro, David and Melinda O'Dell, Robert K. Walker, Tim and Cindy Walker; and numerous proud cousins that will help to keep Jeff's loving Christian ways alive in our family. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 7 until 10 PM on Friday, February 9, 2007 in The Chapel of The Settegast-Kopf Co. At Sugar Creek (Williams Trace exit). A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, February 10, 2007 in The Chapel of The Settegast-Kopf Co. At Sugar Creek. A graveside service and committal will follow immediately in Morton Cemetery, Richmond, TX. In lieu of flowers, we request that memorial contributions be made in Jeff's honor to St. Jude's Children's Hospital in Memphis, TN., so that other children can have beautiful lives like Jeff's.
