I just bought a house and now want to invest in an outdoor grill...I'm having a hard time choosing between either buying a gas or charcoal grill. Which do you guys use? And what are the pros and cons about them?

Charcoal...superior heat FOR THE MONEY (meaning you can get VERY hot and consistent gas grills, but it will cost you...the standard Weber is a great gas grill, but it was more expensive than this student could affortd). Superior flavor (IMO)
Gas...if you get a decent grill, gas is VERY consistent at reasonable temperatures. Gas is also incredibly convenient. I bought a gas grill for convenience (and because I thought I had a charcoal grill coming from my in-laws).
If you're just deciding on taste, ask yourself this question...
How many grilling/bbq competitions use gas?
Time is your friend. Impulse is your enemy. -John Bogle
Gas, excellent temperature control, almost no wait time. If you miss the smoke from charcoal just add some chips and you're good to go.
Nothing further to add: Charcoal for taste, gas for convenience (wait time, temperature control, and cleanup).
Jordan Mills on choosing Tech:
“It’s a great experience seeing them play. It was a good atmosphere. The fans stood up the whole game and never sat down. They have a great fan base.”

I use strictly charcoal with mesquite chips. Yes, it's a lot of clean-up (which I do after every use) but superior smoke favor. I like to cook "country ribs" which makes a big mess anyway because it is so fatty. With charcoal, I just spray everything with easy-off, let it sit for 1/2 hour and then spray with plenty of water. I have 3 charcoal grills and the big Weber is the best. Got a used one at auction for $14.
Usually, I cook the country ribs first, then some brats or sausage, and finally, when the temperature is lower and steady, some salmon fillets.
Charcoal is what real men use to cook. Tastest better.
Gas is quick and easy.
I have a charcoal because it was handed down to me and I love it. Possibly the greatest gift anyone has ever given me.
Get a gas grill and then spend a few bucks on a small charcoal smoker. Then you can do charcoal whenever you feel like the trouble, but use gas when you need something quick -- and you have the ability to smoke a chicken or brisket if you have half a day.
Why not both? And you are forgetting about a smoker too, and that means wood.
I started with charcoal and used it for years. Then went gas when I started getting all these kids. Gas is real easy. Then I started watching BBQU on PBS and now I have charcoal again.
So now I have both and it depends on what I'm cooking and how much time I have. I have plans on getting a smoker too. Then later maybe a Weber ranch kettle. Then maybe a ...
This is cool, I was just thinking about starting a BBQ thread because I'm sure we have some really good BBQ-ers around here.
Most recently, I did a beer can chicken and loved it. Very juicey. Best done on charcoal with indirect heat. You gotta try it.
Check your PBS station for Barbecue University and record it. I have my PC (with video input card) set up to record it off of our rabbit ears every week. I transfer them to DVD now I have a library. (I'm also starting to do this with New Yankee Workshop)
I use propane because I am usually cooking for only two.
It doesn't make alot of since to light a charcoal grill for two burgers.
