Baseball Making strides in the WAC

With a 10-5 WAC record and sitting just 1 game out of 1st place, I like our chances for great finish. Our WAC record for the past 5 seasons is 47-96 (.329 winning %), with 3 last place finishes. The turn-a-round began last year with the Fresno sweep. We are headed into the home stretch in great shape. The players haven't experienced the large weight losses as in previous years as they have a much better strength and conditioning program in place. The pitching and defense have been improving steadily and our offensive production beats last years fantastic numbers.Let's hope that the coaches go back to letting the catchers call the games again after getting away from that phylosophy in Honolulu.:icon_wink: It is worth mentioning that Adam Cobb has raised his batting average from .258 to .302 since March 23rd.Dennis Winn raised his from .263 to .338, and Brandon Hudson from .343 to .375 This is a dangerous lineup for any pitching staff to face. BEAT SAN JOSE STATE !!!!!

Not to downplay any of your comments because they are right on the mark, but it has also helped our conference record not to have to play Rice 6 times a year.

This is true but i'd like to play them again sometime. Does any one know if we are going to play any high RPI non-conference teams nex't season? The media guide left out nex't seasons' tentative schedule. I heard that Arkansas is not on the schedule....can anyone confirm?

how does a regional work? is it 1 vs 4, 2 vs 3 or 1 vs 2, 3 vs 4 or something random? i haven't followed college baseball playoffs much, but i figure this year will be a real good learning experience.

Re: Making strides in the WAC

I question that one, USM is in danger of not making the tourney altogether and to have them seeded ahead of us @ Starkville is fishy

They are currently 7th in C-USA (6-9 in conference), I don't think C-USA will go 7 deep in the NCAA's.

Plus MS State just got done spanking them 2 in a row in Starkville this week, would the Committee send them back to Starkville if on the unlikely chance they make the tourney.

Add to that LSU getting in as a 3 seed at large makes it really fishy.

But LSU is "turning the corner." I mean playing the top 2 teams in the SEC along with Florida who beat Florida State twice should be a cakewalk if they can beat the Mississippi twins. BTW anyone know how many SEC teams make the SEC tournament?

Well, turning the corner right into a brick wall. Sorry, they are just not having their usual season. According to Wikipedia 8 of the 12 SEC schools get into the SEC tourney.

If there are 8 schools in the SEC tourney, how can 7 get in? Taking nothing away from the SEC - FSU, Vandy, Ark, SC, and the Miss twins are deserving...LSU is a stretch as well as Kentucky as a just missed. The SEC is loaded this year - no doubt about it. I see a max of 6 SEC teams getting in.

Re: Making strides in the WAC

LSU is in danger of not even making the SEC tournament in that case, much less an NCAA regional. Didn't that happen to a team last year in the SEC? Or was that another stupid publication?
