Nevada writer again tells us why he doesn't like Ruston

There is plenty to do in Nevada (gamble, golf, entertainment). Uh...Gamble check...Shreveport. Golf check plus...Squire Creek (does Reno have a better golf course?). Entertainment check...ask Doc to come give you a lap dance (he is fairly cheap compared that Reno entertainment).

Reno has a few courses that give Squire Creek a run for its money.
Montreaux which hosts the PGA tour
Edgewood in Tahoe that is site of the American Century Celeb tourney
Arrowcreek
Hidden Valley
Wolf Run is the former university course and is almost impossible on a windy day to break 80

I am glad Tech has a chance to host the tourney next season and was talking with Sim and Tree last week about it. They really need the community to help them out with this event. A solid attendance for it and it would likely return in the future, bad crowds probably never come back.

The only one I've played or seen in person is Edgewood. I'd give Squire Creek five stars vs. three for Edgewood. It felt like I could have driven from Ruston to Sheveport and back before I got from Reno to Tahoe. Reno is a horrible place to visit. BTW, their airport reminded me of the one in Monroe.

I was visiting with Kyle Edminson of the Lincoln Parish Conv & Visitors Bureau He apparently has worked on bringing this tournament to Ruston with Coach Simm and others. No details were revealed, but he was very excited about it, so I expect Ruston and the area will work very hard to be gracious host to rebuke articles like the one from Reno.

If it were me...

I think Ruston should get a group together to create a marketing brochure regarding activities in the Ruston area.

AG what you write of is what 78 has mentioned. That's why you have a Convention & Visitors Bureau. Why do you think we need to reinvent the wheel? The C&V should, and i'm sure already has tons of brochures about what we have in the pinetree corridor along I-20 in northern Louisiana.

If the C&V already has something, then that's great. I was just not aware there were tourist packets for the "Pinetree Corridor." Hopefully these will be sent to the other WAC schools making the trip.

Shreveport has a C&V.
Ruston-Lincoln has a C&V.
Monroe-W.Monroe has a C&V.
They all have packets, flyers, coupons and all work together with the State Office of Tourism.
The word that Ruston-Lincoln is being a part of the initial effort is a plus. Their follow-through will be crucial however.

He's right about local fans needing to support the tournament. There won't be a lot of fans from the visiting teams. We need to see this thing out, and get everyone in the mindset to attend all games, whether Tech is involved or not.

Plus, I know many peole from the Port, who have no connection to Tech, that would drive into Ruston for those concerts at Rabbs.

Well, unlike Moody, I'm kinda happy the tournament is at Tech. I've always wanted to go to Ruston for a game, but the football weekends never worked out for me- but now this might give me a chance to see Tech. And sorry to the guy who didn't like the fans here at Nevada.. A lot of them usually get pretty tipsy by the 7th inning.

Many people in Reno don't realize that you can get to Shreveport from Ruston in about the same time that it takes to get from one side of most cities to the other. Miles is not a good comparison. How much time it takes is the better comparison. I would put Ruston to Shreveport against one side of Houston to the other any day of the week. Same for most major cities.

It is easy to get used to the 2 minute commutes in Ruston.
