we are splitting up our squad this weekend. so please dont ask next week why we struggled against smaller schools. its because we will be playing with only half of a team.

It's not bad when the team is still working to get their batting in shape. Remember the freshmen are adjusting to college level play and that is a step up from high school.
I'd bet that most of the team's practice time is spent getting the defense in shape and fitting the new players into the team so you put the best team on the field. That usually means some players will be adjusting to playing at new positions.
You have to teach fundamentals from day 1 and you can't stop. When you stop working on fundamentals the small problems don't get corrected and if they aren't corrected they become big problems. That's why major league teams have batting coaches and pitching coaches etc. that work on fundamentals every day.
The softball alumni game is 7:00pm Friday night.
As Jay mentioned the team will be split into two squads for Saturday's games which are scheduled for 8am, 10am, noon, and 2pm.
If you watched softball Saturday you didn't see much struggle out of the red or blue team. Kirby and Waits, both sophomores, each took one downtown. There were several multiple base hits and it looked like the bats are starting to come around.
