Some of those Champs were pretty good athletes too. I remember one that regularly made half court shots even in the suit. And then also did some pretty good dunks using the trampoline.

The last one of those graduated in Spring 96. Championship cheerleader turned mascot --a true baller. Stuck around at Tech for grad school (Bio-Med, if I recall correctly), but didn't want mascoting to interfere with his studies.

The one after him was a chubby nerd with socialist leanings and a mild to moderate drinking problem (if I recall correctly).

That guy was already the stuff of legend by the mid-90s.

There was a picture of the former Champ suit in the Union Board office. When I suggested we should get back to that suit -- it may have been cartoonish, but at least it was unique -- I was quickly shushed and advised not to speak of it again.

We had similar experiences in college it seems Champ.

In fact, I remember going through yearbooks to find images of past Champs. I believe in the 70's there was a brown Champ costume. The one common thing Champ has had since his inception is a big head and some jowls. Queue the DR Reneau jokes.

I may be remembering this wrong, but I remember them making a very big deal about a new mascot called "Champ" at one of the football games. It seems to me that the mascot dog before that had a different name (that would be early 80s).

Is holding kids back for Athletics more prevalent today than, say 20 years ago? Just watched our 7th grade team play against a bunch of kids that looked like high schoolers.

We try not to watch tv too much, but networks are making it easy when they put cartoons on where the kids all have 2 moms, 2 dads, or whatever.

I still own a lot of very old t-shirts, but one that I don't have anymore that I wish I still had was the circa 2000 AICHE Christmas party long-sleeved t-shirt that (if I remember correctly) had a Santa Bulldog cooking gumbo on it.

IMO, a parent should never buy the top of the line item for his/her kids hobbies. I am thankful at this point that I haven’t because my son is more interested in the idea of deer hunting than the actual activity. He has a nice gun and bow, but nothing extravagant. I’m leaving it up to him whether he decides to upgrade one day. When he wants it, he can buy it.
