    I have a computer question

I have a lap top computer with what I call a touch pad that is, in effect, the mouse. Sometimes when I'm using the pad, a miniature scroll bar appears at the location of the pointer. I can't figure out when the thing is going to appear, and it causes whatever I'm working on to scroll away. I then have to scroll back to my work. It is aggravating.

Does anybody know how to either disable the minature scroll bar, and if not, at least tell me how to control it. For the life of me, I can't figure out why it appears sometimes, but not others.

I have the same problem with my wife's computer. I'll ask her about it and get back to you.

don't rub against the far right side of the pad... that usually makes you scroll. it's like the scroll wheel on an acutal mouse, just a sensor though.

    That's it!!! So easy.

You don't know how crazy that thing has driven me. I tried everything I could think of to make it do it when it wouldn't and stop when it would. I knew it would be something simple once it was explained. Thank you for solving the mystery.

that should be your nunmber lock. On mine it is the blue function key "fn" + "num lk" which also happens to be the scroll button.

..... well maybe that's not the smart way to do it.. :icon_wink:

It also could be from an I-D-ten-T or P.E.B.K.A.C. error. (Computer nerds are chuckling right now. )

brand new company-owned HP (laptop). Got a sweet little fingerprint access key. Unfortunately it takes it longer to read my fingerprint and log on than it does for me to just type my password...go figure.

you should be able to go into the control panel, then the mouse setting. Somewhere in there is a way that you can turn it off.

Re: I have a computer question

I've got a new computer problem.

I have a Toshiba laptop. Lately, the screen didn't always come up, but there was no doubt everything else was working. I could log in and hear the computer was functioning. The screen was blank.

At first, I was able to hook up an external screen and get the computer to work on that. Once it was working, I was able to shift the computer back to its own screen, and it would work again until I had to reboot.

Now, the computer will not boot. Instead, I get a BIOS beep code; viz., one long beep and two short beeps. This is what I found that code to be:

Video adapter error: Bad or improperly seated video card

I'm trying to figure out what to do. I'm off warranty. I certainly have never opened up a laptop, but I'm certainly willing to if need be.
