Guess what, Jim? Women's basketball doesn't generate money and men's basketball does. I still can't get over the time when he bragged that we are the only institution in the country that spends more on women's basketball than basketball...
Congratulations on the $1.1 million Louisiana Tech received from the WAC. I'm sure you will put it to good use.
There's a debate going on at the NT fan site regarding an Eastern WAC if any of you wish to provide some input. Here's the link -

I would certainly be in favor of bringing in UNT, ASU, and ULL to form an eastern WAC division.
Once again the facts haven't gotten in the way of a story.
Tech's 2005-2006 total NCAA and conference distribution was $1,123,872 according to the Agreed Upon Procedures Report instead of $667,000. Also the 2004-2005 Agreed Upon Procedures amount was $1,326,783 instead of the approximately $900,000 quoted.
that would be great.
the one problem with it is getting NMSU and Utah St to go along with it. while travel expenses for Tech would drop dramatically, it would rise just as much for those 2 schools. throw in 3 more place mats to split the small payouts to the schools. it will be a hard sell to the other 8 WAC schools. for us it would be great though...![]()
its too bad they didnt jump at the chance to do so before idaho was added as the 9th team. that would have put utah st in the west.
hawaii
san jose
fresno
nevada
boise
utah st.
nmsu
unt
tech
ull
asu
12th team
the 12th team could be a team that moves up like texas st or missouri st or a team that is already moving up in wku.
in all honesty, though, that would be the most lopsided conference breakdown I've ever seen. I do not believe any of the western schools would have paid any attention to a proposal such as this.
I think we'd be better off sticking with the WAC 9 , then seeing if it's possibly to establish a Western 18 championship (MWC #1 vs. WAC #1, held during the conference championship week) or something. Anyone know if something like that is possible? I think it would be pretty cool and pretty good for both conferences.
no way would that ever happen. the MWC broke off from the WAC because they didn't want to split their money with the "weaker" WAC teams. no way would they do anything that would bring them closer to the teams they view as weaker than them.
for better or worse, Tech is in the WAC until the next round of conference alignment. we can dream about other conferences, but that won't happen for about 10 years. as long as the WAC can keep up its high profile, it will be good for Tech. hopefully soon Tech can be the WAC team getting the BCS bowl bids
the best possible outcome for Tech would be a disaster for a C-USA school. either UAB is forced by the board of regents in Tuscaloosa to drop football...or Tulane just can't make it work post Katrina. that would be the only way (reason for) Tech to move conferences in the next 10 years.
Does it have to be called a conference championship game if it's a game between two conferences? Is it possible, per NCAA rules, to stage a game between teams not yet decided at a neutral destination?
With regards to the MWC saying no, this is possible, but not necessarily true. If they are not going to be guaranteed a BCS birth as a conference by themselves, would they rather have an equal chance of getting a slot in any given year as other mid-major conferences (let's say that gives them about a 1 in 3 chance, because I think the only serious competitors are the WAC, MWC, and CUSA), or establish an allaince that guarantees them a 1 in 2 chance (winner of the MWC-WAC game gets an automatic invite perhaps)? I'd think an extra shot at several million dollars would be enough to make them change opinions about sharing $ with WAC teams.
