awesome.
We have needs across the board. The top 3 that I can see (from the cheap seats) are:
1- Personell- We need more game managment, compliance, academic advisors, development, and staff
2- Olympic Sports budget (will decrease the need for money games)
3- Recruiting budgets for football and mens basketball (It all about getting the horses)
You know, I like your #1 choice when one really thinks about it. While we need some cosmetic work, as JAB suggests, I think we should try to limit it to bare necessities and use this money to create positions as you suggested. Add some AD positions, especially in the form of fundraisers and then within another year or two, we could reach our goals and have plenty to do more cosmetic repairs.
People like to donate to projects, so if we need a new women's athletic facility (which I think is the biggest need in athletics), then we should fundraise for that.
This is budget money that should go towards personel and budgets.
I don't know who this dude is, but it sure seems like everyone on there has a very low opinion of him. I like the very first comment, something like, "do you ever write anything not about Louisiana Tech?"
Why doesn't journalism have any accountability? If I, as an engineer, was as inaccurate as some of the recent articles about Tech I've read, I'd probably end up serving time. Can we please, pretty pretty please, get some writers to cover Tech that don't mind the facts interrupting their story?
Actually, this sounds like a job for JohnnyLightning. What do you do for a living, JL? Care to retire early and become Tech's new beat writer? We'll put Jay and RealityCheck as consultants.
Don't ask how I know this because I certainly didn't attend, but the Jimmy Swaggart's Bible College discusses this aspect of human psychology. It's difficult to ask people to just give money. But if you can give them something physical in return, even if it is something as small as their name on a brick in public, you can usually be more convincing. So, it was suggested to ask for money because you need a new table and collect twice the cost of a new table in donations. Purchase a new table and then use the leftovers for whatever it is you really needed.

Boy, Eager is really gettin' pissed now. It's great that nobody on there is fooled by his crap. In the Know may be the dumbest person on record with a computer. There really are some cool USM fans over there. Sadly, the loudest ones are guys like In the Know.

Johnny, you've done a great job gunning down those CUSA clowns on this "funding" subject. You nailed them on a number of points, including the fact that their own school --USM-- takes state money from their own states General Fund too. (At first they all denied it til you proved otherwise. LOL!)
Clearly you know more about this subject than any of those idiots on the CUSAabbs board.
Folks, there are some real assholes in CUSA. That guy "Adler" should be spanked for saying "It appears that several Louisiana colleges are taking a first class ride on the federal welfare train." After all the shit the state of Louisiana (and it's colleges) has had to endure since Katrina, -including baby sitting CUSA's Tulane football team at our own school for months- you'd think those pricks would be a little more grateful and understanding. But in a clear demonstration of arrogance and character deficiency, they are not.
Thank you Johnny for at least getting the correct message out.

Thanks HD...when guys like RealityCheck already have all the numbers crunched, it's easy.

Better hold onto to your hats -
It was revealed at last month's LSU pow-wow here in Minden that they are going after $100 million annually from the state since the state is going to allow the ULS schools this leeway -
This is not verbatim, but pretty close to what was said by a high ranking LSU official -
"Since we are the flagship - we feel we need this money ($100 million annually) from the state to be competitive with the Texas's, OU's, Michigan's and Ohio State's of the world...."
I bet they get it...
