Dang Notre Dame has to go and everything all difficult.
I understand that Army just left a conference with a bad taste. And I understand that Navy has found a way to go bowling without a conference. Those two make the most sense in my mind, but I can see why they're not interested now.
Apparently there is no love lost between UCF & USF. ECU seems the next most logical choice.
Bringing Temple back would be the easisest to do, because they bring a huge market and they want to keep their bball in the A-10. now that miami/vatech/b.c. are gone, temple should fare better if invited back.
No way the Big 10 will let Notre Dame get away.
They first have to give 3 of the basketball only schools the option of moving up (georgetow, villanova, and somebody else). If they decline or aren't ready, they will look for a team that will accept a football only invite. The clear choice is ECU. UCF and Memphis are all-sport all the way. This could happen sooner than later. We better get our house in order...starting with new leadership.

You're exactly right. My point is that the Big 10 has been waiting in the wings for years, waiting on ND to finally decide to join a conference. When they finally make a decision, they will most likely join the Big 10 in all sports.
Anytime talk like this comes up, the Big 10 always tenses up a little and starts being especially nice to the Irish.
Yep...unless forced by the NCAA, ND will NEVER join a conference...there is NO need to. However, if they are forced, they'll join the Big 10.

ive seen on the big east boards before that if ND is ever forced, that mabe the BE would have a chance.
their hope is to get B.C. and Penn St. to come back, along with Notre Dame and Maryland. It makes sense to me, the Big 10 would go back to having 10 teams and the ACC would go down to 10 teams (basically trading Maryland for Miami and VaTech)
the only problem is that those teams will not want to be associated with Cincy and USF.
Question? How can the NCAA force a school to join a conference? That will never happen, because it can't.
They couldn't "force" a school to join a conference. But, they could change NCAA regulations...BCS membership regulations (remember that ND has independent-BCS status...as opposed to Navy or Army). There are a number of ways that Notre Dame could be "forced" to join a conference.

Nice try, but ... the NCAA does not control the BCS setup. The BCS arrangement exists between the conferences, the coaches, the Bowls, and the networks.
Just about everybody BUT the NCAA is in on it. The NCAA's only role is to say who is bowl eligible (but not which bowl anyone goes to).
